What kind of rail covers ??

I use ladder covers I got off Amazon for about 4 dollars for a set of 4. I went to buy the Magpul covers til I realized they were $11 for ONE  The ones I got, black, and FDE, have been awesome and fit perfect. I agree with Majorlk .. the others are too large and make it harder to get a nice firm hold at least for me, and I have pretty large hands. YMMV.

+1 for ladder covers. xtm covers were too stiff and rubber covers were too bulky.

I've seen the ladder (and other) covers on a lot of 15-22's here, and they look good. I haven't found the bare rail to be at all uncomfortable, or slippery, or anything, though. And of course I couldn't cover portions of the rail where I might mount things (I keep my scope mounted on the bottom with a QD when in my bag, with the red dot on top).

Is there a real improvement in handling or feel with them, or are they just for looks?

No the ladder covers feel much better that the bare rails and the rubber makes the grip surer. Until I went to aftermarket handguards I used Ergo ladder covers exclusivley on my quad rails. Now I cut them up to use on the modular short rails on my new handguards.

I have the UTG ladder covers too, they're cheap and work great. I put them on the sides and underneath except where I mount accessories.

They add grip and help protect the rails. Think they were about $6 for a set.

ya they're cheap enough to try out. i bought 2 sets of black so i could cut 1 up to different sizes and cover the entire rail/leave space for my add-ons.

Try them once and you'll never take them off.
