EEZOX

Been using Eezox for about a year now and am wondering if others on the S&W Forum have done so. Seems ideal for concealed carry as it's rust prevention is unsurpassed, a decent lube and it ends up 98% dry. No oil on you holster, hands or cloths. I know, your gun shouldn't be dripping with oil anyway. Also excellent for blued guns, as it protects the bluing by bonding with the surface. Check it out in a google search. One the absolute best preservatives.

A different kinda smell that won't turn off your better half. However my question is just how safe is Eezox? Any chemists out there? I attach the MSDS for the product and it's mostly Greek to me. Do we have a forum member who knows if this is a good MSDS, or is this stuff more hazardous than other CLP products? While expensive, you use less and I'm finding it great. Just would like to know if it's "safe" I know that is relative, but better or worse than the other stuff we all use? Anyone know?

I thought I was the only one in the world who still used this stuff! I started using it about 14-15 yrs ago, have used it on blued/stainless/nickel finishes without any ill effects and more importantly (knock on wood) have never had a weapon show rust. Have not looked at the MSDS sheet you provided but it seems very slick and viscous to me, even when dried. My only comment is that when allowed to dry if applied a little too thick, it gets kinda "gummy" so I use lightly as a lubricant. I was running low on supply a few yrs ago and found both liquid and aerosol versions in the rental shop at Offutt AFB of all places. They had had it sitting around for awhile and couldn't sell it so I basically picked it up for a song! I bought every remaining container they had ( think it was 5 or 6) so I'm good for a long time. Like you, I'm curious to know what others think but based on my satsifactory experience with it as both a cleaning agent and lubricant I intend to keep using it.

I also use Eezox and found it to be excellent. You do have to read and follow the directions to get the best performance out of it. Several applications work the best as it seems to penetrate into the pores of the surface.

I seem to recall a recent report, comparing several products. Maybe it was propaganda published by a competing product, but I thought the conclusion was that another product recently surpassed Eezox in performance (one of the three-lettered brands, like CLP??). I thought it was related to a military procurement study?

On the other hand, I have difficulty obtaining Eezox locally because a security department of a local organization swears by the stuff and buys it by the gallon. The dealer's shelf is always empty, so I buy it when I come across it. Haven't had to mail order it yet.

The only downside is that although I agree it's superb on protecting carry and frequently used firearms, I hadn't yet used it on those in deep storage in my safe. No problem with the firearms, but I'm not sure how the odor (although it is pleasant) will permeate into the cloth lining of the safe walls. I don't want to broadcast the safe openings throughout the house.

Jay, I looked at the MSDS and conclude that the most important aspect is there is no indication of it being a carcinogen. The other issues relate to excessive exposure of solvents (liver damage, etc) which can be avoided by taking reasonable steps to provide adequate ventilation.

EEZOX has TCE in it, which is apparently almost identical to our new safe refrigerant 134.

Also NASA uses it:

"TCE has also been used in the United States to clean kerosene-fueled rocket engines (TCE was not used to clean hydrogen-fueled engines such as the Space Shuttle Main Engine). During static firing, the RP-1 fuel would leave hydrocarbon deposits and vapors in the engine. These deposits had to be flushed from the engine to avoid the possibility of explosion during engine handling and future firing. TCE was used to flush the engine's fuel system immediately before and after each test firing. The flushing procedure involved pumping TCE through the engine's fuel system and letting the solvent overflow for a period ranging from several seconds to 30–35 minutes, depending upon the engine."

If it will clean the carbon deposits off of NASA's rocket engines, I will trust it to clean the carbon off my 617!!


It would be best to use it with the window open if you are using more than a few drops a day. That is typical of any solvent.

LGS has a distinct EEZOX aroma. They use it on everything (food excepted).
Interestingly, GUN TESTS recently tested rust preventatives and the winner was S&W Premium Lubricant (the one in the cartridge-shaped can).

Used to complain to no end about tiny rust spots from time to time on everything. Used waxes, CLP's, grease, and anything I could try. Finally tried some Eezox. Zero rust since. None. Nada. As in Nada bit of rust.

And she hates the smell.

So next up once I use up the can is the Frog Lube which I'm told smells like tooth paste and has a slightly minty odor.

The external surfaces of all of my guns get EEZOX and the internals a "conventional" type
of lubricant, like Breakfree LP, which is similar to CLP with the solvent (Clean) portion left out.

If I do have a gun apart and can physically wipe down the parts after
application, then I hit those parts with EEZOX while I have the chance.

i work at a LGS and use the heck out of it at work and home. i still use grease on all rails for my semi autos and revo internals. exteriors all get the eezox treatment. i live in south FL so rust is an edc issue. not with my trusty eezox!

Eezox is the absolute best rust preventive out there. I have used it for years.
It does contain the solvent TCE which is also found in the original Brak Kleen, Brownells sells it straight as a de- greaser. The rest is a synthetic lube. Wear gloves as the odor is hard to remove from your skin (alcohol and lemon dish soap works)

The folks over in the Seecamp Forum who are rabid about their pocket guns like SW fans find it the best of all lubes and cleaners. A little goes a long way. All my safe guns have been coated with it.

Midway used to sell it but they no longer do. Warren Outdoors is a good place to purchase it.

The Gun zone.com which is not working right now, had a very good test showing the results. I have tested it myself against many other products in a salt water environment, it WORKS.

Thanks for the comments. I love EEZOX since once applied, it's SO EAST to maintain the firearm. If it's good enough for the military in Iraq, it's good enough on my occasional use pieces . . . and hopefully never use pieces. It's so nice to use a CLP that leaves a dry waterproof film that is so easy to wipe.

Was most interested about any chemist's finding something in it that is downright nasty.
