got sport 1-20-2012, at lgs, been reloading since 1963,
5.56mm stocking up since march.
have ~ok amount of factory cartridges.
ample components.

1. went to the premier lgs, 3 used ar's, no sr primers, CCI sr bench rest for $59.95, few .224 bullets, ok with powder varieties and quanities. heard sheep.
2. academy, the shelves with .223 and 9mm are vacant - other calibers ok quantity. heard lots of sheep
3. walmart, no .223 factory cartridges, even the expensive .223. 9mm few boxes.
4. cabelas south of austin texas on thursday ample .223 cartridges, 10 box limit, no ar's, no magazines.
5. folks: you need to write your congress person and your senators about the consequences of U.S. senator Feinstein's AWB bill.
if this bill is only partially adopted, then ar's will be recluses/hermits - serious.

Went to my local Big 5 this morning because they told me fresh shipment coming in Friday night and available Saturday morning. Bought the last 5 boxes of .223 at $9.00/box of 20. They had "a few cases" available but the guy said people were waiting when they opened. Zero .308 available. Hit several other places looking for .308 because I was thinking about shooting tomorrow. Finally found some ok stuff and picked up 4 boxes. A couple of places had AR on the shelves but they were not for sale. Demo only. Zero rifles available. Don't even ask about mags.

Crazy times to be sure.

Local shops out of powder,lead,primers and factory ammo. Only "odd ball" ammo in stock, price of black guns and semi-autos up by 20 to 80%.
At this rate the govenment won't have to ban guns...

Grover, this is where reloading becomes a great thing. You can actually buy the defense projectile of your choice, clean and pimp out your finest brass and make perfect defense ammo. And then you can TRADE IT 2 for 1, for target ammo with guys. Or sell it, or whatever. I don't reload, but have a couple friends who do. We loaded like 2k defense rounds in a few days of killing time, and traded it for all kinds of other ammo, duck loads, etc. and it worked out very well.

I'm pretty much done with trying to support my .223 needs in these crazy days. Now I'm looking to stock up on components for my pistols. All I need are cast bullets which my LGS still has on their shelves.

Yes Gentlemen, these are the days when i'm glad i "roll my own".
I'll keep my eyes peeled for bricks of rimfire ammo at good prices
but for centerfire i like to spend some time at the reloading bench.
Let them gouge the panic buyers and those who are hoarding.
It won't be me....

I agree, things are getting crazy out there. As a new-b to the AR-15 platform I am finding it very hard to locate what I want in a "black rifle", so I opted to kinda build my own (that is even getting to be a pain) since most uppers & lowers are also Out of Stock! I was able to put an order in for a Spikes Tactical lower and a upper from SOTA Arms, don't know when I'll get them but at least I have them on order. I also have ten 30rd. mags on back order ..... My next quest will be to start purchasing .223 & 5.56 ammo. I also intend on notifying my state legislators about voting against any legislation concerning my 2nd amendment rights. I'm a NRA member for life!

You cant even find reloading supplies on the sheleves down here in the South. Also as of yesterday, everything thats 7.62x39 related has been flying off the shelves. You can no longer buy anything in bulk in the stores or online. And you cant even find polymer mags for an AK.

3 days ago, u could find whatever u want for 7.62x39. But today, its just as scarce as .223. So for you guys that have anything in AK format. You may want to go out and grab whatever u can before its too late.

I just looked at the Gander Mountain website and they removed all the AR platform firearms from it. I think they see what the future holds for these weapons and even if they could get a shipment they won't take the chance of getting stuck with them. I hate to say it but given the administrations movement on the physical cliff we are going over we are not going to win any battle, they just doesn't care.

Just got back from Academy. I have a gift card that I got for Christmas, but they have nothing for me to spend it on! I was going to just get a couple bricks of .22lr, but the shelves were bare.

Most of their tacticals here are ar-22's, other stuff is over priced, they figure on using the guns only to get people in the store, then selling them other stuff when they see the prices.

I bought my 15-22 from Big 5. It was one of those moments when the stars aligned and the rifle was on sale at the same time Big 5 had one of their few 10%-off coupons that worked on firearms. I ended up getting it for $379 (+ DROS and tax, of course, haha).

I was in there today and the only 223 they had in stock were 20 round boxes of Remmington for $25...not that the PMC they had a empty spot for was a bargain.

I reload .223 so not worried about That, added some .38s to my current stock of rounds...

getting ridiculous for sure... but whats do ya do....

I bought my sport last March for 669.00, glad I did. I reload and have enough supplies to last me a couple years or so.
Alos I am picking up a Colt AR today that I put on lay away before the big price increases, I paid 1200 for it, Colt match target competition brand new in the box. I was sitting on the fence not knowing if I should go through with buying it or not and I decided it is too good of a deal to pass up. If NYS passes any really stupid gun law like registration or confiscation, I will sell it with a back dated receipt.

Back in 2010, when I got my 15-22, I bought 16 boxes of 525 Federal bulk packs from Cabelas. Unfortunately my 15-22 was one of the early production runs that were notorious for FTE problems...couldn't shoot a 10rd mag without at least two jams. It took me until last year to finally send it in for repair.

Anyway, I still have 15 of the 16 boxes of ammo. Turns out that my 15-22 doesn't particularly care for it and neither does my Ruger Mk II. But then again, Now that I'm shooting centerfire rifles, shooting the 15-22 feels like an airsoft gun so I haven't shot it much at all. I'm going to have to change that...at least until the panic buying stops and 223 components start returning to store shelves.
