This morning about 7:30 or so the wife opened the curtains to my son's room and hollered to me because she was not sure what she was looking at. What we saw was this....
That's not zoomed in either that's the distance from my son's room to my shed.
An owl sticking his head up from behind a snow bank. Of course he watched us for only a minute and then flew up to a nearby tree and then took off.
I figured that he might have gotten one of the red squirrels by the nearby bird feeder so after I was sure he was gone so I would not spook him any more I went to look.
I found this first, where this sapling was being nibbled on.
then I found this....
The rabbit was shoved so far down into the snow when I first spotted it all I could see was its head and nose. The owl was standing on it because there were no other tracks. Normally I would have left it alone but since this is where my son and my wife shovel and play I don't need to have him saying "Mommy look at this!" So I was able to scoop him out on this piece of wood and put him closer to the woods in hopes the owl would come back. The rabbit was still warm and pliable, and its 5 degrees on the thermometer.
