Question for NY gunowners

According to the law which I have read from the Senate and Assembly's website, the M1 Garand is covered under Curio and Relic because it is over fifty years old. As far as .22's go, the Ruger 10/22 is banned now, unless Ruger can come up with a 7 rounder which might be tough since it is a rotary and not a box.
Probably the biggest thing that is really going to slow up gun shops, gun sales etc is going to be the background checks on ammo. This is the one that really is making it hard for me to want to stay here in NY any further. There was an article in the local paper where they went and interviewed gun shop owners and the State Police is trying to ram through a 24 hour hotline because if someone buys a gun you will need to perform a NICS check on the gun and a State check on the ammo. The problem is there is nothing saying if you have to do several for each different box etc. On top of that, you will need to keep the person's name, DOB, occupation, address in a ledger and have to see a photo ID. I cannot sell or give a box of ammo to someone now, you need a background check. No more internet sales, all ammo has to be done through a dealer, period. I was hoping to get my FFL, it is the whole reason I am living where I am because the house comes with a large guest cottage that I was going to renovate before I got hurt two years ago. Now I am rethinking that seriously. This area still needs a gun shop, there isn't one for thirty miles south and 60 miles north. So do I stay and live with this, because if I do get my FFL I will be starting over with all of this nonsense and not having to change everything, or do I sell out and move to Vermont, hoping I find a nice piece of land I can afford with the terrain and woods that I have here? I am not even sure I could afford to move, but if Cuomo gets a wild hair up his butt and throws out microstamping as he has indicated and like some of the downstaters want, then the gun business he weakened earlier this week will be finished. I know I have some hard thinking ahead, especially since he wants to put a casino only thirty minutes away too, the crime will only go up. I told the wife that if the Casino goes in and microstamping comes up and we can afford it we are most likely going to be out of here.

Vermont is still a gun friendly state (at the moment). If you decide to relocate here, welcome to you and your family.

Believe me I am thinking it over, I just need to really think about it. I know I want to live near or in the mountains and somewhere near Bennington because that means my family will essentially be driving the same distance as they are now, Pownal is too close to my brothers in law who my wife doesn't even want to live near. Any ideas?

The way I read it was any detachable magazine.
So yes, even .22's are affected. It did state that post 1994 ban 10 round magazines were still legal, but now we are apparently on the "honor system" and are only allowed to load 7 rounds into the mag.

Yes, sir! Scout's Honor!

Don't know what I would do if I where in your position - but I feel badly for all of you.

Seems to me that before you pack it in and move, it would be worth it to join in with the active fight against these politicians and do everything you can to have them defeated in the next election - then repeal these stupid laws - I mean since it will take time to locate a new place to live and sell what you have you might as well fight this fight while you are there. I wish you all the best. I know my wife and I have decided to pack up and leave when/if it gets that bad here.
But in the meantime we are doing what we can to convience others to vote for pro-2A politicians.

Regards,
Pete

Alington ten miles north of Bennington is a beautiful small town my wife is superintendant of schools there, really a quaint little village. Wilmington, about ten miles to the east of Bennington is also a nice little mountain town. Employment in these areas can be a bit challenging depending on your profession, that's the nature of small towns.
Good luck

Good intentions sometimes produce a disastrous effect. The Republicans had for many years, except for a brief period controlled the state Senate. Two years ago, 4 Republican state Senators voted with the Dems to legalize gay marraige in NY. Those 4 were targeted for defeat by certain conservative groups, rightly or wrongly. 3 of them lost their seats to Democrats, and the state Senate flipped to Democrat control. The Dems in the state Assembly have been passing bad gun bills for years but couldn't get them thru the Senate. What you saw the other day is the result of shooting yourself in the foot.
Admittedly 12 Republicans Senators voted badly this time, with the banners. I will never give another penny to the NYS Republican party, and have told them as much.
There's no fight left in me, as soon as some personal issues get resolved I'm gone. Where? Don't know yet waiting to see which states fight the good fight.

I feel for you and your predicament. Most of my dad's family still live in Upstate New York. I'm pissed, and I don't even live in that state. If it were me, I would be actively planning to leave (you are welcome in Oklahoma, we are very pro-gun) while at the same time fighting the politicians. I feel that Cuomo's actions are no less than criminal.

There are a series of class action suits being formed as we speak. I know of at least 2. I'm trying to find inof on and will post as it becomes avail.
The 10/22 I got in the mid-seventies from my dad and the 10/22 I bought my kid last year are both WMD's in Cuomo's "legal" gun hunt.

I am not a big collector or hunter or an AR guy but I somehow have amassed 57 illegal mags over the years.

I should be flogged and thrown into solitary confinement for my obvious criminal intent and felonious deeds.

I believe that whole "on your honor 7 rds in a 10 round mag-thing" is only for a year until you can sell your mags to someone who lives in a free state. After that it becomes a misdemeanor punishable by more flogging.

Do you think criminals will abide by this law also?

Dave: My roots run deep with business and in-laws here. If they didn't I'd be GONE.

There is no way in h#ll I would EVER open ANY type of business in NYS, especially an FFL licence. You are the enemy. You are the only thing standing between gun owners and a state gubment that wants ALL of the guns.

This is the most unfriendly state in the union for small business. I've had one here for 23 years. Work gets done here despite government not with government. I am as serious as a heart attack. RUN AWAY!

I feel for you situation and the folks doing without a local gun shop but, GET OUT NOW! don't look back. NYS is a Nazi-state run by an ego-maniac with an ideological agenda that doesn't fit your business model in any way, shape or manner.

If you never listen to anyone again, listen to me now. DO NOT DO IT. PACK YOUR BAGS AND GO. I'm not too far behind you. Don't worry, I'll flush the toilet and turn off the lights when I leave.

well i am confuse but getting old a few drugs,,,,including .22,,,does that mean the tube rifles also,,,been eyeing any of the tube that shoot short, longs and long rifle for a while and there capacity depend on the round you use...i don't live in NY but went to a couple yr hi school there.

they failed to exempt law enforcement also, though i'm sure they'll amend the law pronto. who's gonna arrest the lawbreaking police? :D
