Dang! Anyone price a pick-up lately?

I'm ready for a new pick-up. I haven't had one in a few vehicles in favor of SUV's and my latest, an '09 Pontiac G8GT I got just before Gubment Motors shut 'em down. I'm keeping the car. It's been "personalized" and I only use it in summer anyway. So I want to do a 36 month, 36,000 mi company lease a nice super crew 4 door, 4x4 mostly for winter and whenever driving. I have no doubt my kids will find use for it.

I've been on line on the manufactures' websites and recently started to check dealer inventory in person. I'm pretty much "middle of the road" in what I want for options. etc. I like nice stuff but nothing that outrageous. Man, you can get north of $ 50k without much effort what-so-ever and entry level for what I want is in the low, mid $ 40's. Talk about sticker shock! Geez, that's serious folding money.

Pick-ups are strong on residual so the leases aren't too terrible but that's offset because trucks are such a strong segment for dealer sales. It looks like they are might be starting to deal now in advance of the new Ford and GM p-u's coming out later this year. Maybe it's worth the wait to hold out a bit and see what rock bottom looks like.

I won't buy a GM at this point. Just too about the bail-out peeved me. And without starting any wars, I've personally never been a huge Dodge fan. I will do a quick fly over at the Toyota and Nissan dealers but I not sure I can pull that trigger either. So the F150 is probably where I'm at so far.

And of course there are a bunch of rebates and incentives that I don't qualify for. That sucks!

FYI, Tundras are made in San Antonio Texas.

I bought my last truck when I retired in 2000. I like fords but that year, they were so ugly, I bought a GMC. It is about to turn 100,000 mi and is as good as new. There's no way I can ever afford a new vehicle of any kind.

Yea its loose, loose! Im a huge fan of Toyota trucks but i dont like the new ginormous ones. I always preferred the T100, Toyota truck (before they had names), Rangers.....trucks like that. The last one i owned was back in 2004. It was a 99 Ram1500 crew cab (or whatever you call the small second door model) 4x4. Had about 165k on it when i sold it. Was low maintenance and good in snow but i couldnt justify paying the ridiculous gas prices. $100 a week ehen gas was still $1.50/gal.

A six year old F350 diesel with over 100,000 miles is still worth over $20,000. If I were to buy new now I would probably buy an F250 (gas engine) over an F150, but I tend to use my truck only as a truck.

I hear mini trucks are really in demand now.

Person at the LGS just got one, not a basic one but with absolutely everything. Cost more than my house!

Not that I need such a truck but even a basic one is crazy, plus you have to feed it!

I would never buy a brand new car. I always get cars with 5000-10,000 miles, they dropped a lot in value and are still in mind condition

After owning over 40 years 22 new top of the line GM 4x4 pickups I bought a Toyota Tundra 4x4 in 2010. Reason for the change was my last two GM pickups were more trouble than they were worth. My last two trucks were a 03 and a 06 and tons of problems. I also was not impressed with the force out of many good dealers and what happened to the GM bond holders, so I only checked Toyota, Nissan, Ford and Dodge.

As of now I’m very happy with my truck and I’m now retired, not going to be trading in near as often as I did in my work years. Truck gets good mileage for this kind of vehicle(400 HP motor), pulls trailers well and pushes its 7.1/2 Fisher snow plow around and does a better job in pushing heavy snow that my last two trucks did.

The Fords I looked at had some well known engine problems and I just plain did not like the Dodge or Nissan. To put the icing on the cake the deal offered for trade in on my 06GM and what they wanted for the Tundra was much better than the other dealers I checked out. I checked 2 dealers in all truck lines I was interested in..

FWIW I also buy a lot of cars also and know my way around dealing with car companies/sales people and what they will say or try to use as negations tactics.

I bought my 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel new. I looked at new ones that were comparably equipped while waiting for mine to be serviced last year. $55,000 and worse mileage on the diesels thanks to the government! No thanks. I paid about 35 for mine. The new ones are nice, but not that nice.

I bought a F150 couple years ago when the ecoboost came out. Really like the truck, pulls our camper a lot better than my previous Nissan Titan did. I would have loved to have purchased a diesel but WOW. If ya get a chance head over to youtube and search F150 torture test.

Sorry, I worded it incorrectly. Was a CUSTOMER who has more money than some 3rd World Countries and you know what, shes a Women! She has a bunch of other high end vehicles also.

I can't buy a Jap truck as my late Dad would roll over in his grave. I'm serious.

My brother was in the market for a Tahoe recently to replace his aging Suburban with close to 300K miles on it. He told a couple of dealers east of Central Tx to keep him in mind in case they needed to move something. Last month a dealer called and had a 2013 Tahoe Z-71, loaded and new, and needed to move it by the end of March. 36 grand plus TTL. That is a lot of jack but quite a bit less than he had seen around the state. I think you can still find some deals if you are willing to wait and pounce when the pouncing is right.

At that point you are just showing off.</RANT> my wife and I were at the Waffle House the other and while we were walking to the car a 2013 Ford F150 4x4 titanium edition truck parked beside us. The driver opened the door and the electric running boards came down, steering wheel lifted, and the seat moved backwards. He locked the truck with the remote and the windows rolled up. The truck was riding on Ford 20s with tires that surely would be useless off road, remember this is a 4x4. The rear sliding window was power as were the rear seats to fold them down to make a flat load floor. Have people lost their freakin' minds? What will that truck due that the F150 STX not do while costing half the price? Yep, wifey and I have looked at new truck, and even drove a 2013 F150 XLT with the twin turbo v6 in it. It was a nice truck, but yeah folks have lost their minds. LOL by the way, what ever happened to the 8 feet long bed on the 1/2 ton pickup, and the ability to get a manual gearbox?

Our '07 F150 shop truck was $16,100 with zero % financing OTD.Bought it over the phone.

We HAVE to have a truck for the biz.....otherwise,that would be the last vehicle I'd ever drive?Never did get the notion of "wanting" to ride around in a PU?Just sayin.

Buy 'em at the auction "lightly" wrecked but still under warranty. Fix em up and drive em 'til the wheels fall off. Book value on my current 2010 Silverado crew cab was over $30,000. I bought it and got it fixed for less than $18,000. It had 22,000 miles on it when I got it and still has less than 36,000 on it now. It's been trouble free for the last two years. Now, if I can get Jr. to quit running over deer with it.

Bought a new Ford f-350 4x4 last August and paid just over 40k, XLT package but not much more. I qualified for 0% financing which helped a little but could not figure out why dealers would not dicker for my business. I went to three different ones and got the same price.
Turns out that with the internet buying option prices are pretty much fixed. You can sit at the computer and order or buy off the lot and never leave your house until you pick it up. They must feel that "lot dickering" would hurt their business with the internet buyers.

You MUST be right on the Pricing issue, I saw a commercial for one of those trucks the other day that was Offering $8000 OFF.. What's that thing cost if they are giving you $8000 off the top BEFORE the Dickering begins?
