we in Illinois are anticipating ccw, someday, but that wont be soon...the passed bill sits on the governor's desk. he can sign it (which he probably wont) veto it and send it back or line item veto it and send it back for rework.

even if Quinn signs it, it will be another 1 - 2 years before anyone enjoys the benefit.

forms need to be created, instruction courses and range qualifications developed and this will be given to the Illinois state police to co ordinate.

the ISP at present is taking six to nine months to process foid applications. the law requires them to complete the process in 30 days, but who's counting. with the additional responsibility of ccw, the processing time may extend beyond a year or more.

one day Illinois folks may no longer have to be "red haired step children", but some of us may not live long enough to see it.
 
Another problem for cc is the list of restricted areas a person can carry, including trains, subways, and numerous buildings. Therefore the good news is yes, you will be able to cc. The bad news, where you can do so will be so restrictive as to make the law meaningless.
 
Quinn vetoed the bill today. My understanding is it's a wasted gesture as his veto will be overridden next week. He will surely be replaced next election as even Humpty Dumpty had more going for him.
 
More specifically he line item vetoed the whole thing to the point where the little they gained, was lost.

By my understanding if their law isn't finalized by the 4th, don't they automatically go Constitutional Carry??

I understand the Gov. amended the proposal and it will go back to the legislators for consideration. If they don't pass a law by the 9th it goes back to the Federal Court where the judge will, again, decide what to do. The Federal judge can't impose a law, but has the ability to hold people in contempt if they have not followed his orders (in this case passing a cc law). The problem is this. Those against the 2nd A cannot stop it but they will try and place as many restrictions as possible, making it difficult for the average person to cc with such severe restrictions that most people will give up and not carry a gun.
 
11 dead, 70+ wounded over the 4th weekend.....I'm thinking if I wait long enough, there won't be enough people alive in Chicago to have to worry about being shot.

I think that the Chicago Tribune data reported explains quite a bit more than we need to know; i.e.: a significant number of reported shooting victims are of unknown gender.

In my experience gunshot wounds need to be extremely severe to make gender identification impossible. But I'm just an old retired cop with just a little REAL experience in such things. I'm sure that the Chicago newspapers can enlighten us further.

To be fair, this state in its infinite wisdom elected Rod Blagojevich twice, so I wouldn't put anything past 'em. :rolleyes::cool:

Yet Quinn cited this violence, all of which occurred WITHOUT any legal cc option, as the reason he vetoed the cc bill and made the changes he made. Huh?

Yeah, we wouldn't want to turn people loose on the streets of Chicago with guns. That would be dangerous....

I love his logic. Why just last week my horse bucked me so I decided to not get that new saddle and keep the old one he bucked me off of. That ought to stop it.
 
Yes, we have a CCW law in IL. BUT, with the provisions, and the challenges, the IL State Police don't have to even accept an application for over 6 months. Then they have at least 90 days to approve one. Then there are the challenges to the law going on which will delay things. If a CCW permit is actually issued in IL before 2015 I will be greatly surprised. The IL State Police have 180 days to approve the Instructors who will be able to teach the mandated 16 hour course (only 8 if you can furnish proof of prior training, such as hunters safety or a military discharge).

Bars (and any restaurant deriving more than half of its profits from alcohol)
Sure, I never take my gun to bars. But it's in the car.
Public transportation Not sure how this is going to work, it's concealed.
Permitted public gatherings, such as festivals or parades Ditto above.
Museums Another , HUH? The Scooby Doo style
Stadiums What qualifies as a stadium? More danger?
Zoos No Poaching ? Aww Darn it.

I am glad that the Sate of Illinois has decided to make some steps
toward equality to the States of the Union that support gun rights of qualifying citizens.
Being from Idaho, where open carry is allowed and CCW is permitted by anyone that passes the background check with training, I have never had such restrictions as our friends in Illinois have had.
You can look at Idaho's violent crime rate stats for the real answer.
I am certain that by a population percentage they are 1/32 that of Illinois.
There are less gun crimes when more law abiding citizens have guns. Period.

The only way to stop someone from using a firearm in a felony, is another
firearm held by you.

This is sad,but so true with the way our state works.We need to get someone from downstate to govern not these asshats from chicago.Maybe we will get lucky and chicago will sink into lake michigan and all would be great for the rest of the state.

We tried that a few years ago. The anti-gun machine in Chitown literally labeled the poor guy as some sort of redneck gun nut that he had to use damage control instead of running a Campaign!
And I wouldn't want to pollut Lake Michigan with Chicago either!
