Concealed Carry Question

I have been considering going thru the new process for concealed carry in Illinois. I have a Shield.

My company requires that my shirt is tucked in. It is a company polo like shirt with logo etc. With an IWB holster, how to you tuck in your shirt with the belt clips.

Seems like I am screwed from using an IWB holster to me.

Find a tuckable IWB holster. Quick internet search will reveal a lot of options.

Galco USA or something similar. Crossbreed seems way to obvious with the brand stamped clips.

Try tucking around the clips. If that doesn't work you might need to get a different holster. If memory serves I think Mitch Rosen used to have one called "The Journeyman", it had a key carrier that disguised the belt loop/clip and I think it was functional as a key carrier too.
Also you can go to any up the good holster makers and see what they have in tuckable rigs, I recommend Milt Sparks, Galco, CompTac, and Ryan Grizzle.

Yes that's what I'm talking about. I get the shirt talking around the holster part. what I don't get is how do you tuck around the clips? Are J clips good for this. Is the Velcro and belt trick a good one. I never had a holster before

De Santis, "Tuck This" it fits several different weapon types, low ride, high quality.

Two suggestions:
Try a Belly Band. It goes around your waist at belt level. The gun can be carried behind the strong side hip with the shirt tucked into the pants over it. As long as the shirt is not tight, this is very concealable and VERY comfortable. I have carried J,K and even N-Frame revolvers like this, and it is totally undetectable.

The other option, which I am using as I type, is a Kramer Confidant shirt holster. If you read the gun magazines you've seen their ad. It's a mesh shirt with a holster under each arm. It will fit a J-Frame revolver or a Glock. I have my Glock 23 in it now with a spare mag under the other arm. I leave the top two buttons of my shirt open and can draw very quickly. This is an easy way to conceal a gun this size and is unbelievably comfortable.

Give these two methods a try and I'll bet you'll agree.

You could always just put a J frame snubby in your pocket instead.

Find a tuckable holster. They're easy to come by. When you tuck it in, all that will be on the outside of your pants is the holster clip. The clip is on a flap and your shirt goes between the flap and holster.

Depending on what position you carry, you can easily position a cell phone case so nobody would even see the clip.

Depending on your shape, or the shape you're in, you might be better looking at the pocket holsters or a good ankle holster.

I've been with guys that carried Glock 19s in ankle holsters and you would never see them (too heavy for me).

No personal experience with those holsters. I am considering the 3 speedholster myself. The only other ways i can think of to get around the clips on an IWB holster with a tucked in polo shirt would be pocket carry or ankle carry as mentioned above.

I've tried a few different tuckable holsters, but I agree with P&R Fan and keep coming back to the belly band for those times when a "regular" IWB holster isn't an option. Another advantage of the belly band: You don't need a belt. I wear it routinely with surgical scrubs.

Good News : Belly bands are capable of concealing even full sized pistols very well. Belly is a misnomer , and ignore the advertisments that show them around belly or ribs. Wear them at belt level , so that gun is carried. More or less in same spot as an IWB. Unless you already wear your shirts and pants on the baggy size , you may have to upsize to allow for the gun.

Bad news : Reholstering involves dropping your pants , removing BB , reinsert gun , put BB back in place , pull up pants.

I have concealed a full size 1911 analog under tucked shirt.

OTOH , if your starting point is a Shield on purpose , you can also look at pocket and ankle carry. For that matter if you were dealing with a button shirt rather than polo , there would be additional options.

Business casual is actually a difficult mode of dress for CCW . A step dressier , or a step more casual has more/ better choices.

Also with most IWB you can change the mounting options. I have a crossbreed for my 40c and opted for the J hooks. The stock clips are nice but kind give it away... J hooks are less noticeable but still retain the holster very well on the draw. There are some that also have Velcro pads you apply to the belt to completely conceal the mounts...

j-hooks or Remora

Galco, Active Pro Gear, and other small IWB j-hook holsters are very useful and concealable.

But for maximum concealment, there is nothing that beats a Remora.
