My son and I are going on a road trip to the Boston area. Actually Framington is our destination. After taking care of business there we will be free to explore a little bit of everything.

We will be looking for some local fare in the food arenas and of course will try and pack as much sight seeing in that we can. Would like to hit on some of the gun shops between Dallas and Boston. Can't do them all of course. I am trying to connect up with the factory for a guided tour. I hope they can accommodate us.
Will need some input on nice places to stay. We can GOOGLE, but, would like to hear from those with good experiences.
Our trip isn't 'never ending', but, our time is our own.
I am looking forward to eating seafood, staying in nice digs, and seeing the historical sights.
Any inputs will be appreciated.
Would also like some inputs on making a tour possible at the factory.
Thanx,

So much to see in the area. The Constitution, Bunker Hill, Lexington, Concord, Walden Pond. Many can be done in one day (like the last three). Boston has a great Redline tour that can be walked including the Old North Church. Rockport and Glouster are beautiful coastal towns. Sturbridge Village and Plymouth Plantation are great living museums. And you're a short drive from Mystic Seaport. You don't have enough time to see half of it. Oh, and whale watches, the most best time I've ever had with my clothes on!

While your near S&W the Springfield firearms museum could be seen.
Basketball hall of fame if your into that.
If you like pork tenderloin there is a place called Michaels pasta in a pan
Don't let the name bother you.
It is pan seared with gorgonzola and spinach and it is great

If you mean a factory tour of S&W, I don't think they do them any longer. When they did, they were only on Thursdays and only for groups. All of the tour guides were retired S&W employees and the last I heard the man who organized them retired from doing them.

Springfield Armory Museum is supposed to be very good, but I haven't been there in years so I don't know what it's like now.

In case no on mentioned it, do not bring any firearms with you. At all. For any reason.

For authentic & fresh seafood go to the No Name Restaurant in South Boston. You didn't say exactly when you're going to be here, but if it's this time of year the weather is unpredictable. Snow is always on the menu, but it could also be in the 50s and sunny.

Tourist stuff in Boston includes the Museum of Science. This is really in door season here. There is an Aquarium in Boston that is very good. There is also the Museum of World War II in Natick, which is right next to Framingham. I've never been (!), but it's supposed to be good.

Sturbridge Village and Plymouth Plantation are great living museums.

they are but Plimoth Plantation is closed from Dec-March. I just retired from there after 25 years.

Check out OSV hours here:

BTW: DO NOT bring a gun into this state. You do not want to live here for the next 10-20 years. MA does not recognize ANY other states license.

For the visitor from the Lone Star State.

If in down town Boston visiting, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, across the street under overpass will bring you into the North End, lots of good restaurants.

North End/Italian Food
Regina Pizzeria - Boston's best pizza since 1926

Near the Aquarium you will find the restaurant below.

Legal Sea Foods - The Standard for Quality and Freshness in the Restaurant Business.

Hope you enjoy your trip, people may think you talk funny, but I am sure you will think all of them talk funny.;)

There are any number of Italian restaurants in the North End. My experience has been that the small, hole in the wall places are better in terms of food, service, and price.

Legal is overpriced and over rated. I'm not sure I'd eat there for free.

Faneuil Hall is touristy, as you'd expect. Which doesn't meant that it's not a good place to go. It just means that you should expect to pay tourist prices.

Oh, I almost forgot. Amrheins in South Boston is a great place to go. It's not touristy, food it good, prices are reasonable, and it has free parking. Which is a rare commodity in Boston. Ahrheins has been in continuous operation since 1895 and still has the original bar. boston restaurants, delivery 02127Amrheins | Amrheins Restaurant, South Boston, MA

Downtown Boston, the North End, and South Boston are all safe neighborhoods. The night club areas of downtown Boston can get very rowdy around closing time, but if you're not going to be out at 2:00 AM or so, you'll be fine.

The OP shows a badge on his profile. As long as he is current (or retired with the LEOSA ID and qual), he's good to go. I think there are mag capacity limits, so research before you go. NY is a 10 round capacity limit with a 7+1 limit. A Shield or 1911 will comply, as long as you use standard mags. NJ is still reputed to not comply with the amended version of LEOSA with regard to HP ammo; simple answer: NFE.

If you can handle a little low rent humor, and some liberal sprinkling of 4 letter words: The Devil Came Up To Boston (Video) Adam Ezra Group - YouTube. NSFW, and some families.

I would not want to be him trying to prove that he's ok to go. Here it's guilty until proven innocent. It could get costly and very time consuming.

MA State Supreme court has come right out and said that they do not always agree or rule with the US Supreme Court.

A lot of great inputs here

Thanx to all for the responses. I will be cataloging them during the road trip up there. Hopefully the weather will be kind. I am not new to cold and snow, but, I don't like it as much as I used to. My son, on the other hand, doesn't like to be cold. His business trip, his truck, and he's driving so there. We'll see.

I did convey to him the issue of bringing any firearms. I think he believes that there might be some fabricated hysteria. I know better and so do most of you.

"Eat lobster rolls and clam chowder at least 3 times a day. Larry" Oh yes. This I intend to do.

I sent an email to Smith and Wesson regarding a tour. Hopefully they will respond. I have an open ended schedule the week of the sixth. With any luck they can fit us in there somewhere.

That is a nice offer. I am afraid all we might come up with is a Dallas Cowboy shirt, (on my son's back) but, I already said we would leave the firearms at home. So, not gonna stir the hornets nest.:D

Anyone else want to jump into this fray?
It's gonna be a long drive. Hope to do all and see all we choose to.

RIGHT next to Framingham is Natick ..There you will find Jordan's Furniture on Route 9. Why a furniture, BECAUSE inside they have a 'Kelly's Roast Beef"... It is the best roast beef sandwich you'll ever find. They have two other locations in Saugus and Revere, but Natick is just down the street from where you'll be.
