Where have all the funny folks gone?

Each to his own. I don't think that the old-timers or the newcomers, any of them, compare well to Edddie Murphy, probably the best comedian of the 20th century.

Back during his Saturday Night Live days.....yea I'd agree. But lately not so much.

I'm Gumby, dammit.
Mr Robinson's Neighborhood. "Hello boys and girls. My wife left me today. I'm so glad the ***** is gone."
Velvet Jones. "Be somebody. Be a ho'."
Buckwheat Sings.

His HBO specials, "Delirious" and "Raw" are uproarious, and not repeatable here.

Some good movies, too, along with a few dogs.

Lets not forget Carrol O'Conner "Archie Bunker"....Talk about being Politically Incorrect these days....

All of the old comedians had one thing in common - they were clean. If a comedian has to rely on profanity and filth to get a laugh, then they aren't funny. Same goes for the sit-coms. The "canned laughter" begins before the show begins, and without the laugh-track, there is nothing funny at all about their show. The only place where laugh-track could be of benefit would be during presidential speeches.

This is in interesting point. That show was intentionally created to poke fun at the white unionized middle class bigot. It was brilliantly done and hilarious.

Mitch Hedberg, Steven Wright, George Wallace (not the politician!) George Carlin, Redd Fox, Andy Kaufman.

About the only stand-up guys I like these days are Bill Engval, Ron "Tater Salad" White and Robin Williams when he just does a stream of consciousness rant.

In the back of my brain cavity where the cells have shrunk and bet me to retirement by years is a fuzzy black and white picture. Perhaps the fuzz is the white noise that was on our antennae fed TV's.

Wasn't Don Knots on the Steve Allen show???? Don was funny.

Check out Louis C.K.

Ok, I'm in my 60s and grew up on and loved all the old stuff mentioned in this thread. My favorite old timer is W.C. Fields. However, that being said, a current comedian I have come to know and love (thanks to my son) is Louis C.K. He's a standup but has a really good reality kind of show that's great.

Don Knotts was the nervous guy on the street. Louie Nye wa also on the show. "Hi Ho Steverino". One of the songs Steve wrote was Gravey Waltz.
