Trying to remember a WWII movie

Another WWII that I recall from my "Youth":
1951 "I Was An American Spy" starring Ann Dvorak, Gene Evans, Douglas Kennedy, Lane Bradford, and Myron Healey.

What happened to these old B&W WWII Movies ? I can never find them on "YouTube" or "Netflix"

More homework for da Ringo.

This movie was filmed in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. My Aunt owned about 20 rental houses, most renters were GI's from the base. They were moved out and the entire movie crew took over the houses.

Victor Mature was of Italian descent. Mo Italian food until St. Louis, 125 miles away. He took over my Aunt's kitchen and cooked. He was a darn good cook. I ate Italian food for the first time...... cooked by a star.

I havent seen that movie for probably thirty years. Victor Mature leading Lee Marvin and the gang--accompanied by Greek Soldiers. Far as I know, its never been released on dvd--I THINK its on vhs--but not dvd. same for two more im dying to get: Imitation General and The Red Ball Express.

My mother met Victor Mature playing golf at a course either in Houston or in San Antonio. He and his group-were playing right behind my mother and whomever she was with. I seem to recall they met Jeff Chandler too-but for sure that was at a Houston golf course.

I contacted "NetFlix" Customer Service and requested that the aforementioned movies "The Tanks Are Coming" and "I Was A American Spy" be added along with other WWII Movies to NetFlix Streaming. Perhaps in the near future we can view some old B&W WWII films.

Ask for Breakthrough, too. Its an excellent movie starring David Brian, Frank Lovejoy, John Agar, Paul Picerni and William Campbell. This is the "original" movie about the: Big Red One. You can buy all thost at the Warner Brothers website and at least two are available only as MoD titles and the other in their Archives dvd section.

Can't one burn a copy of VHS to DVD for ones own use? Legally of course.

I too have not seen it in forever, it was on late night TV back in the stone ages..

Seeing an early Lee Marvin would be worthwhile too.

As far as I know you can. Ive never done it though. Lee Marvin was great in it. A few other earlier Marvin movies he was great in are: Pillars of the Sky-opposite Jeff Chandler and Ward Bond. Seminole-opposite Rock Hudson and Anthony Quinn. Also" The Caine Mutiny-opposite Bogie, Van Johnson, Fred Macmurray, early Claude Akins-too.

Let's not forget a quiet classic, "Attack" (1956, B&W) with Jack Palance, Eddie Albert, Lee Marvin, Buddy Ebsen, Richard Jaeckel (again). An adaptation of the Broadway play "Fragile Fox." See it for the drama and acting, not for technical accuracy of vehicles, etc. Available on DVD.

That STILL looks like Earl Holliman to me!

Ardennes? Wow, my wife & I just visited there. She was born in Wiltz Luxemburg and her parents were both from there also. Mother in Law was from Nothum, and Father in law from Ospern. Both villages are on the edge of the Ardennes bordering the battle fields where the tanks fought. We ate at Schumanns Eck (Crossing). Very famous Inn that had changed hands during the battle of the Bulge many times. There are still bullet holes in the building. Nothum is to the SWest of that place ...less than a Km. There are also several pics from across the road from the Inn of a large Memorial dedicated to the Allied Forces that freed Luxemburg. Luxemburg is its own country, not part of Germany...its 1100 sq miles in size. Btw, George Patton is buried in Luxemburg City, Luxemburg. There are 2 cemetaries. 1 German, 1 US. The Germans are charged yearly rent, the US isn't. Both my in Laws lived thru the Battle of the Bulge. Several of their brothers didn't. 2 joined the Nazis, 3 were in the Underground. Pic of Duke & Duchess. His sister refused to marry Prince Charles...he married Diana instead.

Jodyu's got your girl and gone...sound off !

When we marched, I always liked the singing cadence. It always seemed to pick you up a bit, like the guys did at the end of that movie. Sometimes the DI would let one of the guys marching do the cadence calling and the singing would get real funny. You'd actually forget you had a 60 pound pack, and rifle on your back and started enjoying the 10 mile march.

My Dad would have been at the Bulge, but he was knocked down a few weeks earlier.
