Here's my newest addition to the armory. Smith & Wesson M&P10 Rifle.

Setup as you see is 11.0LBS Even! **UPDATE: See post 20 for latest pics with new Tacticool muzzle brake!**

Vltor 7 Position Buffer Tube
Magpul ACS Stock
Badger Ordnance Tactical Latch
ERGO Tactical Deluxe Grip
Troy TRX 308 12" Battlerail LP
Vltor Low Profile Gas Block
Harris BiPod
A.R.M.S. Bipod Adaptor
Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 Scope w/ Bubble Level and Switchview Lever

Ordered but not yet received is the Tacticool22 308 Muzzle Brake & Troy Squid Grips

I also discovered an extended AR10T Ejection Port rod is NOT necessary with this handguard setup.

That's a good looking setup there. That scope makes the rifle look like it's a 5.56!

Man that looks good! What all is involved in changing to the Troy 12" front, other than gas block?

Is the Ergo grip rubber or plastic? Any issues there?

Fairly easy install once the stock delta ring is off. But yes, just a low profile gas block. As I listed, I went with the Vltor LP Clamp-On style. Fit right in. Very little room underneath it but it's clear and the gap is only small because the base plate for the picatinny rail is inside the rail. Without one there would be plenty of clearance.

And the Ergo grip is rubber. I have them on all my rifles. I have a large hand and this grip has been my choice since the first time I grabbed on. They rock!

Why do people put levels on scopes?

Copemech, it's a fair question. I think at short range it's pointless. However, at long range, which I shoot a lot of, they do help. It's amazing how just a little bit of cant it takes to miss at long range. Cant error increases with distance.

My .02 of course but go long without and with and let me know.

Fair answer, I just have not yet come to figure or expect mine as a long range gun. I have figured the pencil barrel as a 2moa gun all while hoping for better. I have 2-300 rounds through mine now and have not exceeded my expectations. Mostly cheap break in ammo, with the Rem 150 the best so far. Apicola's recent report on my other thread "What have I done wrong now" seems to support this.

I do not have a range to shoot over 200, but if I can get that dialed in, 300 may still be realistic with my eyes, 4x14 scope and current setup with no free float. Not sure how mush difference that makes. Can you put yours back to stock and tell me if it is worth it? Ha!

I guess in all fairness the use of a bubble is a habit for me. I have a completely blueprinted Rem700 that I put a Schneider M40 barrel on that sits in a McMillan A5 stock and it has a bubble as does my other long rifle. So I guess it's habit but I plan to put this out to at least 800 and I have a 1000 yard range I can shoot at which helps. I had concerns with this barrel as well and we will see how it is but with the new 5R barreling I'm going to take their word and see how she performs. Even at 500 yards, cant can be an issue. Sorry, no going back to stock set up!

Since you have access to a 1,000 yard range, I'll be very interested to see how your rifle performs. I've read that the .308 is either an 800 yard round or a 1,000 yard round, depending on who you talk to. I am figuring 800 is more realistic since more experts seem to lean that way and because the M&P10 is not a full length rifle.

I agree... 30-06 or a 300 Win Mag, yes, but a thousand yards with a .308 is really pushing it. Just my .02

Depends on the bullet used and launch velocity. There are some 308 loads that will still be supersonic at 1000 yards

Do the aftermarket grips require any drilling due to the new placement of the spring in the M&P 10? They moved the safety detent spring or something right?

I installed a MOE grip without drilling with no problems. Later, I trimmed the spring short because Dopey Me crushed that part of it when I reinstalled the grip after I'd removed it to paint the rifle

I didn't have any issues just putting my ERGO grip on. No problems with detent on takedown pin at all.

My Tacticool22 brake arrived today. I put it on, here's a pic of it. I also re-weighed everything with scope and without and both scenarios with a 10 round loaded mag. Weight w/o scope was 10, with was 11.04.

I've been trying to shoot this dang thing but I am scrambling for my upcoming move to Texas and tomorrow I was meant to shoot but we are meant to have a big snowstorm here so probably unlikely.

I may have to wait until Texas.
