One nice thing about Chinese food is their mixability. For lunch today we had Hunan Beef, Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken L0 Mein. Just a little of each was left over. This evening I mixed all three into one dish, added some soy and cayenne pepper and nuked it for about 3 minutes. Boy was it good! Some cold Crab Rangoon topped it off (Rangoon doesn't microwave well).

Last summer I was in San Francisco with a group of 15. We were directed by locals to a particular restaurant in Chinatown. As we looked at menus, an older lady came out of the back. Assuming I was the leader (I was the oldest and 13 were teenagers), she told me to forget the menu. For $10 each, they would bring out several entrees and serve them family style. That was the best decision I've made in a restaurant in quite a while. There was more than enough food, everyone had two or three dishes they liked, and it was cheaper than anything on the menu. I had nowhere to store or reheat the leftovers, though.

There is a little chinese restaurant in the town that I live. There is nothing in the way of atmosphere. Just four walls and a lantern. Kind of dumpy actually. The other day a co-worker and decided to order out. I got the General Tso's. Let me tell you it was outstanding! And a huge sized portion! I am a big eater and there was enough for 2 days. I wished I could find a recipe for the sauce. I'd eat on it everything!

If you like good Chinese food stay out of China.:(

My wife and I have a friend of Chinese decent (born & raised in the U.S.) who owns/operates a Chinese restaurant. She has been to China and says the same thing.

Chinese is probably my numba won favorite food. Japanese second. I once went to the only chinese restaurant in Kalispell, Montana. I couldn't believe they had sweet and sour hamburger on the menu.

My favorite chinese dish is white snow-cut chicken.

The thing about Chinese restaurants, they are everywhere. Case in point, about 20 years ago I was in French Guyana, on a bus, traveling through the jungle on a single lane in the middle of nowhere. We came around a bend and -- ta daa! -- a Chinese restaurant, all by itself, by the side of the road. We didn't stop, and were soon engulfed by the jungle again.

My favorite Asian food is Korean. Fiery, garlicky, heavily but by no means exclusively meat-based, with lots of wonderful soups.

Like the Mexicans, Chinese chefs in this country mostly have heavily adapted their cuisine for American tastes. They often have two menus, one for us and a separate one for Chinese diners. The Korean restaurants where I've eaten seem to stick more to the original styles, according to Koreans I've asked about it.

Unfortunately, most of the traditional sit down Chinese restaurants have closed here. We now have a plethora of Asian Fusion Restaurants which are OK (pricey too), but I used to love those old fashion Chinese family style restaurants.

We do have a bunch of Chinese Take Out's that are still pretty descent.

I love Chinese food, too. We have a couple of good ones, I wish we had more. Unfortunately, Chinese, and Japanese Steakhouse/sushi, is the only Asian cuisines we have. I love vegetables with texture. I hate overcooked mushy broccoli.

HUH?
I like Chinese food and have lived in the PRC and Taiwan.
The way they do it here doesn't compare with REAL Chinese food.
The food is the only thing that I miss about China - Taiwan, on the other hand.....
The food in Hong Kong is Britized - Here it's Americanized. They should leave it alone (known as Family Style here).

Fact. Worst Chinese food I ever ate was in Hong Kong.

Best I ever ate was in little town of Marble Falls, TX.

That's because you probably ate REAL Chinese food. What's sold here is about as chinese as Empire State building. Except for a few small things there is nothing Chinese about the food sold here.
