I need to empty a 56 gal tank in my boat. Bad gas. What is the best way to do it? I've been looking on the net but figured that you guys may be a bit more reliable as far as advise.

Depending on the layout it may not be possible to get a hose down the filler neck. Usually there is a cover you can remove to expose the sending unit. You might remove this and be able to remove the gas from that opening.

I'm in the same situation, Caje. I'm finally going to junk a 1998 Dodge Stratus that we bought new. I've been parting it out. Ain't much left. It has a full tank of gas that's from last winter. Still good enough to burn in my 1998 Sierra with 197,000 miles. I bought a siphon hose at the auto parts store. Haven't gotten around to it yet....

Check around as there are hand cranked siphon pumps. Try Tractor Supply or automotive stores in your area.

That's going to be a lot of gas to empty..but....They do make a bilge pump, sort of...A hand pump, for that very reason...Pumping out of one container into another...It's hand operated, so it'll take you some time to do...

Of course, having something to pump it into. The used gas can probably be mixed with some good gas, might be good for using in lawn mowers, or something you don't have to travel in...And not a boat either. Otherwise disposing of it will be a problem......

Something like these....Some you can get are powered by a 12 car battery (If it was me!) or a hand pump, that'll keep the kids busy for a day, with that amount of gas.

I had an I/O with a 50 gallon center tank. It did draw from the bottom so I disconnected the fuel line from the pump (nice 302 V8 with no pollution **** :)), added a flex line out the drain hole, used my compressor with a nozzle to blow into the breather vent to get the gas flowing. As mentioned, all on a trailer but it didn't take that long. The difficult part was getting enough cans! The gas was still good enough for lawn equipment so I offered my neighbors "free gas"! Some even brought e a beer or two in exchange!

Gas

If it has an elec pump disconnect line at eng & connect a hose to dump barrel . Or buy a cheap elec 7GPM pump take a battery & some fuel hose done.

Well from one welder to another, there MIGHT be a screen or other device in the line to stop siphoning. GMs have had those devices since the 70s; I do not know about Mopar but think they would also. If you're just going to junk it put a large catch pan under the tank area and slash the fuel line.
You can use a pencil/golf tee or some other inert object to stop the flow when you dump the catch can.

if it's on the trailer you should be able to siphon it out. don't you remember how to steal gas from when you were a teenager? just saying. lee

Lee--we called our siphoning hose growing up "the Arkansas credit card." I loved the interest rate and payment plan until a local farmer caught me and my dad made me work for him for free 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for a month. That ended my life of crime at 16. Been suspicious of offers of "easy" credit ever since too.

A 56 gal tank I imagine is a large boat. I drained a 25 gal but it was on a trailer.

Is yours in the water?? The other question is were to siphon it to or into?

If it is in the water than a simple siphon will not work. The have low volt gas suction pumps.

Just dump it in the water and call BP (Shallow water Horizon)and you must know the Lawyers working on the case and file a claim :D

Just found this, I believe it would be La approved!!:D:D

I like it-but I'm pumping gas not diesel and am a bit leery of that "spark" factor. Think I'll take a trip to tractor supply later on today.

I use a hand pump made to fill kerosene heaters stick one end in tank and other in can and start squeezing the bulb. I do this every year on an 18 gal tank in a center console. Sounds like your boat is bigger. Doing it this way no battery needed and no sparks.
