Hi fellow J-frame lovers.

I have been having a really been wanting a "humpback" lately and at this point in life, if something comes in something has to go...So I might try selling my 642-2 + some cash to get a shooter 49, 649 (probably out of range.) or other all steel humpback.

I tried looking online at GB, Armslist and other sites, but there are not many well used 642s out there for sell to gauge the price of. I might just keep my 642 and wait until some of the bills get lower. :o

Here are some photos. Please feel free to tell me I'm crazy and should never think of selling this gem! :D (I probably wouldn't if it didn't have a lock and I stayed off of here! :))

These are all the trouble spots, the rest in good shape and is in good mechanical condition.

Thanks in advice! :)

Aside from thinking you ought to just keep your 642 because it won't sell for much, I gotta say you are probably a nice guy in person to have 10 times as many likes given, as posts.

Thanks ralph7, I "like" a post if I agree, or if someone took the time to reply to my post or I think the post is helpful and I spend WAY to much time on here so the likes have piled up. :o

I don't think the cosmetic blemishes would stop anyone from buying your gun. That kind of thing is going to happen to a true carry gun.

The cheapest I've ever seen those guns new in a store was actually today and they were priced $399.95. So over $400 after taxes.

I think you should be able to get about $100 less than the cost of a brand new one. So in KY after taxes that gun would cost about $424. If I couldn't get $324 out of the used one then I would just keep it.

There was a 642/CT for sale at a dealer in Toledo. (on Armslist) Asking $400. Went to look at it because close to home. Did not see it in the case. People seemed too busy to care, or ask if I need help. 3 people working, 2 customers. I didn't really want it. Bob

Look for a well used M49 as a preference.

There's nothing wrong with your revolver except a little use.

Unfortunately, as a newer S&W , it lost value when you bought it. Just the reality of most recent S&W products : no insult intended, the same can be said of a Ford or BMW of recent manufacture which has been gently used.

The M49 is much more likely to be stable in value.

Just my opinion , of course.

RPG, I completely understand about the value, that's why I buy mostly used if I can and I don't mind it looking a little worn since it will be carried and shot anyway. :D

I'll probably just hang on to the 642 and save my pennies for awhile and then buy a Humpback.

Thanks everyone who replied. :)
