Going to be a bad winter?

Just wondering about this upcoming winter as I have seen a few things that TO ME do not look good.

I live in upstate NY and many of the trees are turning color much faster than usual. Acorns have been dropping for the last two weeks, never saw that this early before, deer are changing into their darker coats, many are almost totally changed and my 3 cats are already into heavier winter hair (they are 100% inside cats BTW)

In no weather guesser but it looks ominous. What say you people of the S&WForum??

The Heat Index (opposite of Chill Factor) has been running 105-107 degrees here the last two weeks.

Oh its nice and warm now, in fact the last few days have been warmer than most of August. I have the windows open and it's very comfortable. Problem is this is now!

I live on a mountain next to a large lake and have a long curvy, nasty ,gravel driveway, so as soon as it gets cold enough to snow I will put the chains on the New Holland tractor and make sure the snow plow for the PU truck works OK.

Like I have said in other threads, up here you have to be prepared for just about anything. Last year's winter was real bad and it looked like it just would never stop. I'm just hoping this winter will be reasonable. Time will tell!

I'm in the Charlotte, NC area and it's been a really strange summer. Normally we get into upper 90s around July-August. All summer it was in the 60s and 70s at night and 80s in the day. We did hit 90s this week but it's quickly cooling back down to the 80s.

I've lived in NC my whole life and I know it's not normal. I've also noticed leaves already starting to fall. That usually doesn't happen around here until October. Maybe these are signs for a harsh winter coming.

It was 96, and heat factor of 105 in IL yesterday. Supposed to have a cool front come through today. I did see several of the large brown woolly worms last week, which is very early and one of the "old wives tales" for an indicator of a early and hard winter. My wife said she heard the Old Farmers Almanac has indicated a long cold winter also.

Indian Summer here in the Vegas valley. Temps went up from 99 degrees to 106, high for early September. Am out here under MD's orders, given the state of my lungs.

Sorry to hear of your premonitions in NYS. I could not have survived last year's winter had I remained in the NE. Many forum posters attested to cold weather into April. Best wishes. Lemme toss a sweater into the car in case it goes down to 85.

We've had the same weather patterns here in Durham, as well. Strange summer seasons the last two years.

We had a lot more rain this summer than we've had in several years and a week ago,at 7500',I noticed some of the aspens are turning.Oh yeah,I didn't cut any firewood this summer-we're screwed!

In Missouri the heat index has made it to 109 degrees. It's rough.

May the sun gods smile brightely on you!

I was at Lake Mead one summer and it said 118 outside. It took me 2 weeks home to chill down to normal weather!
