Which S&W Revolver Do You Carry Most?

I carry a revolver about 98% of the time, occasionally I will carry a 1911, (Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander).

Almost invariably, I carry OWB, with a very rare pocket carry. (I still haven't found a pocket holster I really like)

My revolvers:

Model 442
Model 10

& when I'm tramping the woods, I open carry a Model 357NG (hip), or a Kimber Eclipse 10mm, (chest rig)

This is my primary carry and once in a while I carry a 642 PC Talo.
If I need to down size I have a S&W .380 semi auto, but that is only when I can not carry my j-frame.

As I approach my 7th decade of life I have learned to respect and appreciate the weight of handguns. As a Deputy Sheriff decades ago I carried a Colt Commander primary, and a bobbed hammer Model 60 2" as a backup. Wore this setup for years.

When hired by the State for the last 10 years of duty I was issued a Glock 23, and was subject to dismissal with cause if caught carrying anything else. Still hate Glocks, just can't abide them.

Today I carry a Kahr CW-9 90% of the time, and a Smith640Pro on occasion. Practice with both regularly shoot the Kahr better! This is the 2nd Kahr CW-9 I've owned and both have functioned flawlessly for 100s if not thousands of rounds. Gave the first one to my niece who needed a SD weapon that was simple to carry and to shoot.

About 80% of the time I carry a semiauto...several that I like.

The 20% for revolvers is usually a 3" model 65.

Regardless I carry almost exclusively IWB

If the question is which S&W revolver we carry most, why do we need to hear about Glocks and such? Seems like peeing on our campfire to me. Just sayin.

It puts into context just how much that S&W is actually carried...if you strap it on once a year for an hour it could still be the S&W you carry the most. That is why...CONTEXT is everything.

I can let it pass, just wondered, but will make my closing comment that if one doesn't really carry revolvers, seems like they wouldn't (shouldn't?) relate to the question and even post. How much they carry something other than a revolver isn't relevant, and they needn't boast about it.

I guess it turns out that it is not a simple question, if everyone infers that the answer has to have a context, especially what they consider as "carry".

If I am carrying a revolver off duty, it will more likely be my : Model 65 three inch. Possibly the very best CCW revolver they ever made.

I rarely carry, but when I do it's a 637 airweight in a pocket or owb hip holster. I may pick up my I fram 32S/W long ot even a 63 /w or Charterarms snubby. Just depends on how I feel, but as I said. it would be rare to carry being a nice community here in E. Kentucky. Just don't bet that that I'm not carrying.

My "always carry" is a 642 with Hornady Extreme Defense cartridges. Keep it in my pocket in a home made leather holster with a flap so the "pistol shape" does not print. It carries so well, sometimes I forget it's there. :)

I never heard of a "Carry Rotation" in my early years of carrying but noted one post here where the carry guns platforms could not be more different.

It was drilled into us, in 1968, to carry the same gun the same way always. Before I would carry my Colt Cobra it would go to the range for 50 rounds so I'd get comfortable w/the differences between the Smith & the Colt.

Fine motor skills deteriorate during a life threatening emergency and I don't want to be fumbling around trying to recall what I'm carrying.

Magnaportssk, I don't think some members noticed your post. Your combination is right on target...Most do not know this combination is available in a working form. Right between the 38 and 357 and accurate. I like the 147 grain xtp with proper loading. I think it should only be used in a 357 chambered gun, obviously.

Good luck trying to keep an internet forum completely on topic.

If you figure out how to do it let me know.

I might hire you to put together a household rule book for our four cats and then train them to follow it.

  1. I mostly carry a revolver these days.
  2. I mostly carry a Smith 36 "no-dash".
  3. I used to rotate carry guns, but having mostly worked in CPZs since 2011, it's more convenient for me to just carry the Chief's Special in a pocket holster, since it's so much easier to disarm and arm.

Would the greatest distinction be the moonclip reloads. It isn't really known as a carry caliber, is it?

Not to mention the production date range, here we have a boundary that we are discussing revolvers, period.

When I carry a revolver, which is not too often these days, I carry this Model 58 in its Lobo Gun Leather Combat Classic holster.

Beautiful firearm you have there...what stocks are those?

Edit: Never mind...saw your thread in the 61-80 forum!
