Explain Your User Name

Smoke was my grandfather's nick name. He got it when he was a kid either because he was out smoking in the barn and caught it on fire or he got caught smoking in the barn and my great grandfather caught the back side of his britches on fire. His real name was Vearl Hagan but I never heard anyone call him that.

He was born in 1903 in Cyclone Kentucky and I'm fairly certain he never went past the 8th grade. I don't know the whole story of his life but I know he founded a construction company in Omaha and that he had a reputation for absolutely ethical business practices and as an absolutely honest business man.

In my entire life I have never heard anyone make any negative comment on his morals or his character and I never heard him make a disparaging remark about another human being. When he died in 1995 his funeral was packed out. My father abandoned my family when I was 10 and Smoke was the single greatest example of what a Godly man is supposed to look like in my life.

By taking his name I have a responsibility to live up to his character and never post one word that would discredit his name even if you guys have never heard of him .

It's pretty simple. My initials and the first handgun I bought. A 686 stocking dealer special with 5" barrel in 2006. Not very imaginative.

I tried to come up with something completely inconspicuous, but with a nice ring to it. I think I hit the long ball.

It's not even close to my real name.

Really enjoy this thread gives some insight to y'all. My middle name is eric and my first name was same as dad's so I was always eric since folks started calling me something. Also enjoyed it being different as I grew up.

These threads pop up every now and then. Over the years I guess I've told this story at least a half dozen times. But I guess once more won't hurt.

When my sons were growing up, I spent 12 years as a Boy Scout leader. During that time I took an advanced Scoutmaster training course called Wood Badge where I was assigned to the Fox Patrol.
My hair went gray in my early 30s. Its a family thing.
Anyway, it took my fellow scouters all of about 30 seconds to start calling me The Gray Fox.
The nickname just sorta stuck. ;)

I started playing guitar in 1997. I can't remember what year we got on the internet, but I was going through a big Delta Blues phase, and it was my little homage to one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Robert Johnson. I've used it most everywhere from the beginning.

My mom, my sister, and my friends call me Kenny.

When I irst went on the internet I wanted Gadnydancer but it was taken so the ISP (AOL) popped back with various suggestions and one was to add some random letter to the front of it so I added the letter O and became Ogandydancer. Some variation of it is still my user name on all my e-mail adds. and it is also my user name for my current isp.

Carpriver is a crystal clear stream that runs out of the Yellow Dog Plans water shed. I has some of the best rainbow trout fishing. I love the place so it's so use it for my screen name.
