It's actually for my wife, because her hands are just too small to handle a Sig Pro well. I had been thinking about getting her a J frame revolver since they are much smaller than a full size semi auto. And I saw my LGS had some different Model 60s in stock in 357 Mag while checking them out online. The pstols I primarily looked at were the Model 60 Ladysmith and a 3" barrel Model 60-15 with adjustable sights. I wasn't worried about a little extra weight from the longer barrel of the 3", but needed to make sure it would fit her hand well. So I rounded her up and we drove over to Lafayette, LA to the gun shop and started looking at them. She handled both the Ladysmith and the 3" 60 and she actually liked the way the 3" handled better. After giving it a good look-over, we went ahead and bought it and came home.

First thing, I looked it over thoroughly and didn't find anything bad as far as fit and finish, except that I find that the way they are cutting the forcing cone looks kind of weird as compared to my older N frames. The barrel isn't over or under clocked, didn't have any gouges or funny hunks of metal in the rifling and the crown isn't finished badly. In other words, none of the stuff I have been reading about here on fit and finish of the new S&W revolvers. I find the double action pull to feel a bit heavy as compared to my N frames, but acceptable. The single action trigger is nice though. I then cleaned the pistol thoroughly and pulled the sideplate off and lubed the internals a bit as they were just a slight tad on the dry side, but no major gunk or dirt internally. I then did a good Ren Wax job on the pistol and got it shining nice and pretty. Looks like we will go to the range Thursday and give it a good testing and see how well it shoots.

In short, I am very satisfied with the quality of workmanship shown by S&W at lest on this pistol. I have not found any of the problems with it as I have seen posted here. As for the IL, well it comes with the new pistols and I haven't decided whether I will pull it out or not yet. We'll run a few hundred rounds through it and see how we feel about it. My wife will be shooting 38 Specials in it instead of 357 Mag for more moderate recoil, but I will be bringing some 357 Mags to run through it at the range Thursday. Small as it is, I imagine that hot 357 Mag won't be too pleasant, but I guess I will see then too. Here's a couple of pics of the new aquisition.

It looks like a winner.

I'm betting your wife will enjoy it.(with 38 Specials) 357 Magnum is doable, if you are use to shooting Magnum revolvers.

Congratulations to you both.:)

I bought your 3" 60's sibling, the 3" 60-15 Pro, over four years ago. At the time, it was $26 more than your model. I bought it simply because it came with the '60 Pro' grips - which I had already put on several of my J-frames. If my experience with mine is typical, you'll love your 60 - congratulations!

PS I forgot... here is my 3" 60-15, aka the '60 Pro':

Stainz, that 60 Pro looks really good with the squared off barrel man. I think the barrel looks better on it than the Pro barrels do on the 627 series. Somehow to me, it just looks more balanced on the little frame than the big one. I would definitely have looked hard at one of those if they had had those in stock. I like the fact that the 60 I bought (and like yours) has adjustable sights. I plan to load it with 110 grain JHP rounds for defensive use and the adjustable sights will let me adjust POI for that load.

And 629Shooter, yeah my wife will never shoot a 357 Mag in that pistol. I want shooting it to be a fun and pleasurable experience and I just can't see shooting 357 Mag rounds to be either for her at least.

You did well. My experience with the 60-15 has been nothing but positive. Since I won't let my wife use mine (lol), I put larger closed-back round-to-square Nill grips on mine. It is my favorite (by far) hiking and field gun. I shoot everything from light 125 grain .38 special loads to 180 grain Buffalo Bore magnums through mine, depending on the perceived need at the time. They are really perfect little revolvers.

The rounds in my speedloader pictured earlier is my .38/.357 Magnum defensive round of choice: Remington R38S12 .38 Special +P 158gr LHPSWC. My wife will shoot a box of them thru my 60 Pro in no time, but she really prefers my 2" 10 - it has six rounds!

My 60 Pro came with a Tritium Night Sight. In order to see it, it has to be so dark that you likely won't see your target - I'd rather it have a an iridescent orange ramp or fiber optic (HiViz). Here it is with my 627 Pro:

Don't fear the IL. I've been buying/shooting S&W revolvers so equipped since 2002 with no problems whatsoever.

PS I told you I like the '60 Pro' style grip (~$43 from S&W parts):

You will have to watch that shooting 38 and 357 in the same outing (cleaning). Suggest you shoot the 357 first.

If the gun was really for her, why not pick a 38 Special model?

Mainly, shorter barrel, lighter weight equals more recoil. Plus, it ain't hurting nothing to have the capability for 357 Mag. She handled a M60 Ladysmith and also the 642LS and she was the one who preferred the 3" barrel 60. She also handled a 637 and thought it was too light. Her main problem isn't handling the weight so much as she has small hands. And while all 4 fit her hands much better, she liked the balance of the 3" 60 better than the others.

And yeah, I know all about shooting 357 and 38 in the same gun. I've owned a Model 27 for 40+ years. ;) I'll also be bringing at least one of my 27s to the range for me to play with anyways, so I can rip off a few cylinder fulls with the 60 first and see what it feels like with some fairly hot 158 grain 357 rounds. Then I'll turn her loose with some 38 Specials.

Nice piece, congrats! IL guns aren't as scary as some make them out to be. I like the actions on them quite bit. I took me over ten years to warm up to them, but I have no issues with them whatsoever now.

Congrats!
Yep, the 60-15 is a sweet machine! (See my avatar)
I put some CT grips on mine and set it up for 25', perfect!
I liked it so much, I bought a 2 1/8" 60-9 to go with it. I have put some really stout 357 mag ammo through these guns, no problems at all. I mostly shoot my own 38 spl +P ammo now, but they can handle the serious stuff if you need them to.

Here are mine, and another pic of them with their Grand dad, a flatlatch pre 36...

We have the same m60 but in 2 inch. It's become a favorite winter coat pocket gun. I like the grips same as yours and have shot many 357's from it. First il gun I bought. No disappointments

Nice looking gun. About a year or so ago I took my wife to the LGS where the salesman and I convinced her she should have a little .38 spl J-frame 642 with a shrouded hammer. It's nice and light plus it fits her hand perfectly. Just one problem. She hates to shoot it (felt recoil and a heavy DA pull). I even added a CT laser to it. To make a long story shorter she ended up with a little 9mm SCCY autoloader, but the best part of this story is that I have a .357 mag 686+ which is a heavy gun, but my wife absolutely LOVES to shoot because loaded up with .38 spl there's hardly any felt recoil. Hey, at least she's out there having fun and I now have another carry gun! :-))

I was thinking a K frame 38 should have filled the bill. I am not a disciple of shooting either/or caliber guns. I shoot what's stamped on the barrel, at least in terms of brass length.
