I just picked up a new 45c in FDE at LGS. I'm not crazy about the thumb safety on it and from what I can tell, it is not available without it in dark earth. There is a Youtube video of a guy that removed his by simply driving out the roll pin, pulling the safety and putting it back together. Are there any ill effects from this?

The main reason I am looking at a safety is to use with
a light trigger and/or for IWB carry.
Pushing a pistol into a holster so close to the hangy-down-things
is a might stressfull.

Unfortunately, mine is FDE and doubtful I can get plugs in that color since I have never seen them without the thumb safety. So, I will have to get the black ones.

Call S&W. I'm sure they have them in FDE.

Edit: Yep, here's a pic from the S&W website-

Thanks for the pic! I didn't call, but emailed them asking if they had fde, if not I would take black. Good to see I can get them. Now just waiting for a reply back.

@Nevadadvx, let me know when you hear back from S&W and what they say..

I have the same model and would like to remove the thumb safety and get the plugs also...

The safety has moved to the on position a couple of times on me while carrying..

Not liking that at all.. Thanks !!

Will do. Yea, that safety is probably the easiest to move I have ever seen.

S&W got back with me today on email and said I would have to call them to order the plugs. So, I will be making a call on Monday.

If you approach them (the call taker) properly, I"ll bet they send them gratis!! Monday may be a holiday for them? Try to call anyway.

I emailed and they said they would send them to me free of charge... That's how I got my plugs/

I was kind of hoping that would happen, but I guess the guy I dealt (Frank) with wasn't in a giving mood. :p
Although, they still may just send them out if I call. No big deal either way, I don't mind spending a few $$$ on them.

I would llike to buy the safety lever if anyone is willing to sell. I would prefer black but would take FDE.

Thanks

I believe all the levers are black since my FDE is.

As stated, it's a simple job, but be aware that there is a small plunger in the trigger housing block that needs to come out, too. It just lfts out, and may come out on its own.
