I was getting undressed for bed one night, and discovered that my Kahr K9 and IWB Holster was missing from my belt. I searched the House, the Lawn, and my Truck but never found it. So I reluctantly reported it lost to the Police. I was sweating it out that I could be sued should someone get injured or worse with my lost gun. About a month later my Wife was using the shop vac to clean the truck, and found the Kahr wedged between the center console, and the seat. I have since switched to a more secure holster.

I've got a couple physics question . . . How did an IWB holster with pistol slide down the inside of your pants, out your leg opening, and land where it was found? In the alternative, how did an IWB holster with pistol get shoved up high enough to leave your side and land where it was found without you feeling it move that much . . . ?

And when you got out of the truck, how did you not notice the extra couple inches of slack in your waist band until you got undressed for bed?

To answer all of the above: Yes I notifed the LEOs that I found it, It didn't slide down my leg, I'm a big fat guy, and it was a single clip Don Hume IWB Holster. It lifted off of my Belt, and must have fell between the Seat, and the Center Console. My big Butt must have planted it good, because I stuck my hand in there twice, and didn't feel it. I have since switched to a Bianchi OWB Holster

I have to admit that I misplaced a gun inside my house for at least three days. After carefully thinking about how this happened I was able to piece together the story. I was at my desk inspecting and wiping down my Md 649-3 when the doorbell rang. I quickly stashed the gun in the little space between my printer and the wall. The doorbell was UPS delivering something. I got totally distracted by whatever was in the package and never went back to retrieve the gun from its impromptu hiding place. In fact, I forgot about it. After a couple of days I discovered the gun was missing and I tore the house apart searching and was really concerned. The next day I went through the house again and finally discovered where I had stashed it and only then did I remember the scenario that led to its being there. While the gun was missing it was CONSTANTLY on my mid. A very disturbing experience that worked out ok.

I lost a SAA for several weeks,I finally remembered stashing it in my sock drawer.
I would have found it eventually..when winter arrived [emoji1]

I had a similar reaction to the OP when my Ruger MKIII went missing- panic, cold sweat....

I didn't discover it missing for two days, so when I went looking for it and couldn't find it I was absolutely panicked. I thought back..."where was it?" Then I remembered....

I had removed the front sight and had left the gun on the kitchen counter. I had also been in an accident in a neighboring state and was prescribed some muscle relaxants for back pain, which I never took. My wife, who was out of the state at the time, tried to call me (about 10pm) and when I didn't answer she asked to sheriffs dept to drive by and check on me- she was worried I had passed out or something. I didn't answer because I had taken a walk to de-stiffen my back and had left the front door unlocked. I came home and spoke to the deputy (parked in my driveway) and he drove off. He seemed nervous and said he had not gone into the house. Weird, just like that, with no prompting he blurts out that he hadn't left his car. Two days later I cannot find the gun.

The rest is conjecture; I believe the deputy looked through the back window with his flashlight and saw the .22 sitting on the counter, so he went around to the front and found the door unlocked. He went in and took the gun. A neighbor told me he had seen the officer knocking on the front door, even though the deputy told me he did not. I reported it stolen and when I called back to check a month later I got a lot of stonewalling by the duty officer and he finally told me there was no record of it on the hot list. I got it reentered as stolen and a month later it wasn't on the hot list....again.

23 years later I still have the box and front sight, but the gun is long gone. I had a case number but the electronic organizer I was using at the time is now dead. I guess I should be comfortable knowing it was stolen by Johnny Law vs some drug pusher, but I'm still perturbed.

I "put one up " when I went on vacation. Forgot about doing it, couldn't find it a few months later. Thought it stolen and reported it ....just in case.
Cleaing out the closet , I "found it", I swear I didn't remember putting it there, then the Oh Yeah moment.....when I went on vacation.....great hiding place.
Called police and unreported it....they said it happens more than you think.
I lost it...but it was lost in my house all along. You won't get in trouble for reporting a stolen gun found.

I almost lost one of my target sighted Model 60's in the woods when the plastic belt loop on the back of a nylon Uncle Mike's OWB holster broke at the stitching. I was hunting and evidently it caught on brush and fell to the ground without me feeling it. Luckily it hit dry leaves so I heard it. I have since switched to better holsters and I even put neon green Hogue grips on that one so it will show up on the ground if dropped.

Yes, 3 actually.

One my father borrowed out of my bedroom without telling me.

One I left outside on the porch railing overnight after laying it there when I was removing other items from the car after a range trip.

Third one slipped between my foot locker and my bed in its case. Took me a few months to find that one!

Not a carry gun, but when I was a kid, I had an old, pitted Savage pump 12 ga. that I had spray painted green and brown. Used it for jump shooting ducks at the lake near my house. No dog back then, whatever I shot, I swam for. (Later learned to carry a collapsible fishing pole with a bunker snag).

Once I shot a couple Mallards, set the gun down, followed them down shore (wind), then stripped, and did my swim to retrieve them. When I got back to shore, got dressed, but could not find my gun. Went back the next day, and found it after about 20 minutes of searching. It had a good cammo job....

He probably stuffed it between the seat and the console, like I do sometimes, and forgot.....Two words for you, if it didn't happen this way: THUMB BREAK! I know it's not tactical and if you come up against the guy who killed Liberty Valence, he might be a quarter second faster than you on the draw, but think about it.....Even if he's a quarter second slower than you, you're going to get shot anyway!

Don't feel too bad, I forgot my gun on the toilet tank of a comedy club I went to once. I got into the parking lot and immediately realized..."This is not funny at ALL! Not even a little bit!" I went back and found one of the bar backs and flashed my badge and said: "Someone stole my gun from my car and the last place I saw them was in the bathroom, then I lost them! Did you see them?!?! I just called the State Police to come down here for an investigation!" He reached into his pocket and pulled out my gun. I told him "God bless you, son", and gave him fifty bucks.

Considering all the stuff I've been involved in throughout my life, I'm amazed at how many things have worked out in the end!

Depends on what the definition of "lost" is................................

I have temporarily "misplaced".... forgotten where I stored a gun ...... or two.*

I have found guns I'd kind of forgotten I owned or still owned...........

...... but I've never actually lost a gun!!!!!!!

At least not that I remember............

:D

Funny story; about two years ago..I was trying to clean up my paperwork... when I came across the Pa. Record of Sale/Purchase for a 4" 586 from 2007 ....... giving me one more 586 than I thought I had. Searched high and low for that gun....... even made a trip to my Dad's to check his safe.

Long story short..... turns out it was the serial # to a 581 I'd had for a very short time and traded for IIRC a 4 inch 66-1**. The twenty-something, part time "LGlockS" clerk put the wrong model number on the form....doubt he's ever seen more than one or two 581/681s; but had seen and sold a number of 686s and maybe a few 586s. I figure to him 686s are stainless and 586s are blue.

Footnotes:

* a common problem...when you have more than one safe in more than one location......

** I was in my "19/66 period" at the time. And decided I'd rather have a nice 66-1 shooter than a 581 safe queen..... and didn't want to spend any money! LOL
