My new Toy.

That's kind of stuffy. I'm sure the OP knows the difference.

As firearms enthusiasts, we should all know the difference. However, an anti-gun person will take this kind of attitude (gun freaks think that guns are toys) out of context and to a level of stuffiness that will simply try to make it so you can't 'play' any more. Remember, in some states, the 15-22 is considered an assault rifle. Feel free to think 'it won't ever happen in my state'. History proves otherwise.

Firearms are serious items. We teach others respect for the firearm, and that they are not toys. It would be hypocritical of us to teach one thing and do/say another (not that we all aren't hypocrites about something at some point).

Is that being kind of stuffy. Yes. Because I'm an adult, and I take the responsibility of firearms ownership seriously. That doesn't mean that they cannot be enjoyable/fun - I've got a slidefire, multiple suppressors, and HATE shooting paper because it's an enjoyable hobby. I'd love a machine gun if I could afford it.....

I'm not trying to be politically correct here - I'm trying to ensure that those that would enforce 'political correctness' on us do not try to misrepresent the 99.9999% of responsible gun owners out there.

Just my $0.02.

Congrats on your new rifle (NOT a toy). Don't see any ammo though.. Is she holding that back until x-mas? That would be a dirty rotten thing to do :)

You'll need a few magazines too... 25 rounds goes by REAL quick...

OP, enjoy your new TOY, just like I enjoy playing with mine. Here's a photo of my TOY that I'm dressing up in Magpul Foliage Green (still have to get the sights changed out). Gee, I hope the term "dressing up" doesn't offend anyone either...

Kelly, congrats on your new gift. I have lots of guns & I shoot my 15-22 more than any. If you don't want to spend too much money, stay away from discussions regarding suppressors & shortening the barrel to make a SBR. I fell prey to that sickness but danged if it doesn't make an incredible gun.

Regarding the toy issue, curious if y'all consider all your guns toys or just the 15-22? Would you call my 300 Blackout AR a toy? My Sig 9mms? Maybe I'm old school but I don't call any firearm a toy. I can't imagine being around young shooters & calling any gun a toy. But then again, I cringe when I see folks call a magazine a clip. :)

Regarding the TOY issue.

While i think we all understood the context in which the OP meant it. Also with it posted on a 15-22 forum, where only us lot will see it, it is a harmless, if inaccurate moniker.

However, it can easily be misconstrued and taken way out of context by those (and they do exist) who are hell bent on making sure that all FUN with firearms is only for those with a badge or dogtags. Here in the UK i would probably state that if i referred as toys, about my guns in the presence of the firearms officer, i doubt my licence would have been granted.

I get poetic licence and i get the excitement but i also get the reason to name a firearm, a firearm. It distinguishes a level of respect and consideration for what is essentially a potential day wrecker.

My rant over.....enjoy your toy, your new best friend, your firestick, your lead slinger....your Smith & Wesson 15-22. Only please never refer to it as an AR or it's magazine, a clip. ;)

Not a rant or a finger point but just as an aside but on a similar note,

I took a thorough and harsh beating on a well known UK fullbore site (where you have to ask to join and state reasons and what you would hope to gain )
when I inadvertently referred to a rifle as a weapon,

Easy thing to say when 30 years of training go before civilian ownership of a firearm.

I have often heard people in the UK warn each other about the way you get hung, drawn and quartered on the US forums for terminology fo-pars and outrageous claims, which I find a tad funny when you consider the above.

Though I don't get excited about clips/mags, I do get ruffled by the term gun when used to describe a rifle, as a gun to me would be a shotgun or an Artillery piece.

I guess it's like Suppressor / sound Moderator / silencer.

Its what your taught first that sticks in your mind :D

End of the day, if we can all shoot, have fun and claim our own claims, as long as it's safe, then it's all good. :)

So now i'm off to load some 9mm Smarties (M&Ms) for my other slightly bigger toy..........

as I ponder, standard or subsonic loads... cause I do love my Cans....

I think some of you guys are wound up just a little too tight. Relax, take a breath and just look at the post. The OP was just excited about becoming a part of our community and then someone has to come along and play word nazi and make sure that we all toe that line. I'm sure I've referred to all of my guns at some point as being a toy. Big Fracking Deal. That doesn't mean that I actually think it's a toy. Believe it or not I'm able to discern a real toy from a firearm.

Like I said guys....just relax and take a breath.

Yes, I wouldn't have any problems calling any of your guns toys. No, I have enough common sense not to tell a young kid a gun is a toy. In fact, I had my 7 yr old nephew over and I took him out to the range to shoot my .22. I had enough common sense not to refer to it as a toy to him. It really isn't that hard.

Anyone besides me think this thread's gone way off track?

The guy's showing us a photo of his new gun, not asking us to define what it is or have some argument over semantics.

To the OP: Nice gun. You should get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Kudos to your better half, too, for her wise choice in gifts.

Merry Christmas (early) to both of you.

Really ! I mean really ? If truth be told all but a very few use this fun gun for anything other than fun. You can call it training all you want.
So where do y'all draw the line ? BB gun / rifle , toy ? How about airsoft ? Pump up pellet rifle ? Heck have you ever been shot with a paint ball gun ?
,
Fact is with all the questions about defending my / your home as to who you can or cannot defend your family , self & home against these days I am giving serious thought to a non-lethal form of protection.
,
To the OP , Kelly B , don't let this bother you or run you off this is the best place for anything you will ever want to know about your new TOY

Thank you for clearing that up. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I take my guns very serious. Yes, I was, and still am, very exited with my new Weapon.

Thank you very much. And Merry Christmas (early) to you and yours.

LOL. I'm not going anywhere. I enjoy this forum. Heck, everyone has an opinion and I guess they are entitled to it.

Glad to hear it.
Now on to your quest for ammo , mine likes CCI , but take the break in slow & see which ammo yours likes best & use it for a good while. But then some say they shoot anything from the start.

The word Nazi's will tell you that the antis equate that word to any piece of equipment (guns, tactical knives, etc.) that may be used to kill people, and therefore, a term that firearm enthusiasts should never use. :D

It's just another synonym to me.
