Wow. The 1,000,000th Shield was made in November 2015!

Okay then... That settles it.
1 Million Shields made and only a (documented) handful of problematic or defective RSAs (Recoil Spring Assemblies).

I believe we can say that the infamous RSA problem is a Non-Issue, rather than a design flaw, or anything worthy of a recall. :D

Wow! That's awesome.

I do agree that the RSA issue was never worthy of a recall but remember that folks were waiting months for replacements they requested because they were on backorder. That tells me that enough people needed them to deplete inventory. A low cost item like that is something that I'm sure S&W had crates full of at one time.

I feel that the RSA isn't a design flaw per se but is a poorly designed component given the quality of the rest of the gun. Just my $.02 of course and I'm sure I'm biased since I had the problem myself!

Mine has a build date of 11/4/15... could mine be the 1,000,000th LOL :) Would be cool if they listed the serial number of it.

You may be right, but the long backorders could also suggest that Production was so busy cranking out finished guns and that Customer Service wasn't getting enough requests that it warranted changing the production schedules.

A slightly better "shelf" for the RSA to fit into might be nice, but I don't think it is a design flaw. Perhaps more a sacrifice for the sake of compactness?

True enough. I just think that items in an assembly that could be considered "consumable" (like springs) would be stocked in such quantity that they would have enough to support folks ordering replacements simply based on round count.

Yes! A shelf would be a nice improvement as well.

I'm glad I have one of the million. I'm actually on my second Shield and my son has one as well so we were a huge part in getting them to a million ;)

I too like the made for/by americans. Go S&W ! The RSAs.... could it be the fact that people got a little 'nervous' that some had an issue and most then 'HAD' to have a 'spare' RSA. I understand that nobody wants a paperweight while waiting for parts but requesting replacement parts for mostly brand new pistols I think sets up a ''run on the bank'' per se. It is a moving part and therefor a wear part. S&W, good people that they are, sent out 'more than a couple' gratis. Because it's a wear part maybe they could have prepared a little better... but, they didn't. From what I've read most posters can switch to another pistol, I know that I don't like it when it happens but we are talking about a tool that fires a projectile after a small explosion. By its use it beats itself up. Hopefully we know our pistols well enough that it doesn't happen at a critical time.

I think this is an awesome achievement for S&W! I have 2-Shields myself (9 & 40) and couldn't be more pleased with them. Of course, I've been a big S&W fanboy for a lot of years! :-)
