Fake handicap

Your town should have a compliance dept. that drives around and checks for cars in HC spots without a sticker or tag, etc. If you're 100%, call your town and ask for compliance. I'm not sure they will be willing (or able) to research him further with the HIPAA laws and an aversion to rocking the boat.

If it's issued by a doctor, I think you're going to be out of luck. Look at all the fraudulent worker's comp and disability cases out there!

I hope I have in no way offended anyone with a disability or need of a HC tag. Not my intension, just an reply to Arik's question!

Why be so judgemental? To judge by virtue of simple observation will only lead to an assumption. Now if you want to, confront the person and validate or invalidate your suspicions by the response or lack of response then go for it. But to assume based on observation is simply premature....so now you want to profile based on whether a person acts, walks, talks or looks disabled.......leave it be.
She complains about absolutely everything. If it's too hot, too cold, not enough paper in the fax machine, food, service at a restaurant, her car. On top of that I know everything about her family and her friends and their families because she always talks about absolutely everything to everyone. ..except for this. No problem standing in line at the bank or anywhere else.

I know what heart failure is....my dad has it.

Has no problem walking in 12 inch heels or whatever with her head glued to the phone when carrying bags of whatever she just bought while walking in those heels. No problem juging in them to pick up her phone in a different room. Moving boxes....not a problem. Picking up and moving chairs also not a problem.

Like I said. IN 15 YEARS I have yet to see ANY sort of physical limitations and she's not the type to suck it up.

Confrontation is pointless because the answer is "none of your business". And it's none of my business because there is nothing. On top of that she's the owners wife and while I do not work for him or her and really couldn't give a piece if the were on fire in front of me I may make it difficult for my boss. So I don't say anything otherwise I have no issues calling it like I see it

Call it like you perceive it, but you will never know the facts. Your observations are just anecdotal but hey it's her bee in your bonnet.

At Christmas time down in DFW area I saw a lot of "checking". In TX and AR there are codes on the tag that match your driver's license, so it is easy. Even if disabled, you have to be using your own issued tag if checked by an officer.

My Mom has plates, but I have to carry my hang tag as well, as my name is not listed for her plates.

Also, if they enforce on private property parking, it is as a result of a request from the property over in most cases. At my office, the enforcement is done first by building security. If your situation is private property, and the owner does not care, local LE is not likely to go looking for trouble.

If all of us got in a circle and tossed our problems in the middle for others to see, most of us would snatch our own problems back pretty quickly . . .

Well said.

I spoke to two ladies at WM this morning, asking how they were doing, and both just frowned. I replied that they should just watch the folks come in struggling to walk and then their problems wouldn't seem so bad.

I have a placard in my auto and truck, because of my wife's artifical knee and other ailments. I did not use a handicap space today since I was by myself. I can't stand the thought of using a space, then someone coming along and really needing it.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Is there anyway to report abuse of handicap placards? Not license plates but those plastic things that hang off the inside mirror.

I know someone who is clearly misusing them...

My first question is...how do you know?

Unless you know the person, I'd be really careful about reporting someone.

And unless you're legitimately handicapped yourself, and the person's taking space that you should have access to, I'd just mind my own business.

Illegal use of handicapped stickers and hangers happens every day in every town in every state. You aren't gonna stop it.

Excuse me for asking. And I can tell you there is no pain. Working in the same office with this person for 15 years. The only time there is pain is when they can't take a month vacation. And as I said....I asked the S.I.L who said he has no idea why they have the plaque.

You sure you want to start that kind of urinating contest at work?

Me personally. ...I don't care. I work with them, not for them. And generally I don't like their attitude so I have no problem picking a fight and keeping it going, in fact I keep a few past grievances alive and kicking. However I don't want to cause problems for my boss so I haven't said anything aside from asking her son in law who said he's never heard of any physical issues or limitations

That right there, my thought as well. I wonder how many use a family member's HP tagged car or placard. My dad was happy to use my mom's placard, even though he was able to get around fine. I got on him about it.

In this day it's almost impossible to know who needs one and who doesn't. Just because a person looks healthy doesn't mean they are.

I used to work for a government agency that issued these types of permits. They would not turn down anyone. I know of two specific abuses that still stick in my craw. One was a freeloader that refereed football and basketball and could run up and down the court and field but had to have a placard and the other was a still working city fireman.
In my experience the truly handicapped were the least likely to ask special favors or have an attitude.

Widely abused system that will never be fixed so just grit your teeth and go on.

My wife has MS and a hang tag. Some days are better than others. On the bad days she uses the tag and usually a crutch or cane. On the good days, she parks in regular spots.

I doff my hat to your wife. Barbara and I participated in Wyoming's MS 150-mile bike ride for several years and sponsored our bank's team after moving to the mountain.

Wyo has the highest per capita rate of MS in the nation. Many of the MS 150 riders have MS and participate as best they can. I never saw a HC mirror hanger on any of their vehicles.

Even before I met so many of those strong souls I began parking as far as I could from store entrances and counted my lucky stars that I could make that walk without pain or assistance. I feel for the ones who can't, whether their reason is real or contrived.

I don't go out much, handicapped, disabled what ever. Most of the time the handicap parking is too far from the entrance to the store like at tractor supply. Or there aren't enough handicap parking spots. I use a walker and I meet a lot of kind people.

At Christmas time I see people use the handicap parking spot the run inside the store, no sticker is used. That bites my butt.
When I used a cane I would park in a normal spot to leave the handicap spots for people worse off than me.

I rented a power chair once and caught abuse I was trying to get out of there way being nice.

My wife and I are both disabled and have the mirror hang tag and license plates on both cars. I walk w/a cane and she has RA so bad that her joints just don't work very well. When I see someone without a permit occupy a HP space I call the non emergency police number and report them. I'm too old and too smart to confront anyone.

.

Local tv news outlets usually love to run with stories like that.

This a GREAT subject, that I've talked about on here before! I am handicapped and it's obvious. I wear shorts 90% of the time and you can clearly see my amutated leg.

It upsets me to no end to see people abusing the placards or not having one at all, parking in handicap spots!

Report them if you can! I would!!
