What's everybody's favorite belt gun? 640? 649? model 60? Why do you like it and what holster do you use, and of course pics welcome.:)

For some reason, the Magnum-J lends itself very well to belt carry. The slight added heft of the heavy barrel seems to make the balance "just right," in my opinion.

My preferred flavor is the 649 (dash 3) carried AIWB in a DeSantis Flex-Tuk.

Edited to Add: Nice 3" SB Chief, John! Fancy leather, to boot.

My vote goes to the Model 640-1, with the Model 649 in second place, both with the magnum frames. I carry premium +P ammo exclusively, but it's nice to have the option.

I see no reason to limit myself to a two incher if I'm carrying on my belt. Usually carry a M60 Pro in an El Paso holster but sometimes, just for fun, it will be my M631 4" in a self made Threepersons style holster.

If carrying on the belt...

-Quickness into action still matters
-Weapon retention still matters
-Weight still matters
-I want the option to transition to pocket carry
-Cost is still a consideration

Taking those points into account, I would probably stick with a 642, but would be ok with a 640 as well.

Normally I would carry my 36 AIWB with a 442 in my pocket. My back has been hurting lately so I have a 442 in pocket and AIWB. A little less weight plus the 442 is my favorite.

I carry a 642-1 in a Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB holster.

Reasons?

It's the only gun I have right now. I kept it for it's versatility, which is funny because I can't even remember the last time I carried any other way than IWB. I've carried 2" and 3" K-frames IWB without a problem, given a good belt/holster combo (1.5" Beltman/Milt Sparks SSII or VMII copy).

Snub revolvers, particularly Centennials, have a lot of good attributes for a carry gun. The no-dash 640 has been my "grail gun" for quite some time, but I like a carry gun that's not too difficult to replace if necessary. One of the reasons I like the 642. But I think a steel J-frame would work better for me since I carry IWB nearly all the time, and pocket carrying even my 642 is a little awkward for me. I would probably go with either a 640-1 or 640-1 Pro Series, assuming no internal lock. I'd still carry my preferred .38 Special loads, though. But the 642 serves its purpose quite well, so I'm not in a hurry to replace it.

I chose my holster because it's excellent quality at a very good price; it's easy on/easy off; it's an IWB holster with a reinforced mouth that stays open so it makes practicing easier; the clip positioned behind the cylinder lowers the profile and pulls the grip into the body, making it conceal better; and the cylinder rides about even with the belt, which is where I like it.

Here's a picture. This picture has my previous 642-1, but my current one is the same.

My answer is a Model 60-0, in a Bianchi holster.

I prefer my 640-1 Pro, but the factory has had it more than I have since I bought it (hoping to get it back in a few weeks, this time). In the mean time I'm back to my M&P 340.

They both work great in my lined Lobo Enhance Pancake with 1¾" loops.
