Animal House Special Showing

During the 1971-72 school year, I went off to college. You might say that I majored in Fraternal Studies. That was all of the college I ever tried. A few years later, when the movie came out, I watched and thought, "I know these guys." But, no one in our Frat had a Corvette. We did have the lowest GPA of all the Frats, and half our house flunked out that year. It did wonders for my alcohol tolerance and poker playing.

And it was based upon a comic strip from the National Lampoon.:cool::cool::cool::cool:

I just watched a documentary called, "Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead". If you're a fan of NL, it's a must watch. It covers everything from the beginning at the Harvard Lampoon, up through Animal House and Caddyshack. Caddyshack wasn't an actual NL movie, but it was written by Doug Kenney, and had a few NL performers in it, like Chevy Chase and Bill Murray.

I was a faithful reader of NL from about 1976 up til the mid 80's. DSBD brought back lots of memories, and I watched it three times. Like I said, if you like NL I highly recommend it.

And it reminded me that I still have NL's "White Album" on vinyl, which I immediately dug out. I can't post a photo, as it's somewhat politically in-correct!

My old boss was from Eugene Oregon and his son and daughter were in the marching band in the movie. I thought that was so cool and kept asking him questions about it and he never really understood why that was such a big interest to me.

For those of a certain age this film was unquestionably one of the not-to-be-missed cultural milestones. Brilliantly written and casted.

For those who want a deeper dive see documentary on "The Making of Animal House" at [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP9J8wnZ6T0&ab_channel=DVDc0llect0r[/ame]

I had the very enviable experience of living in a very similar non-fictional fraternity house for four years. Double-Secret probation and all. Most of us are still alive and close friends and return for homecoming each year to recall the days of Camelot, be as immature, irresponsible and carefree as we can for a weekend.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?.....HELL NO!!!

The REALLY funny or sad point of this is if you're watching the movie with teenagers when this comment come up you'll rarely even get a snicker.
Watters gets it right time after time with his interviews of college age students on FOX.

Chris Miller.....

And it was based upon a comic strip from the National Lampoon.:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Chris Miller wrote HILARIOUS stories about his youth. Later he wrote a book called "The REAL Animal House' detailing his tenure at Dartmouth and his experiences in Alpha Delta Phi. He was the real 'Pinto'. He had an accident swimming to and climbing one of those creosoted rafts in the middle of lakes. His private parts were literally tattooed with creosote from the sharp splinters, hence the name 'Pinto'.

Just a few of my favorites short stories are:

"Invisible Robkin in the Locker Room"

"Ned, Stu, Steamin' and Mr. Rock and Roll Meet the Amboy Dukes"

"Stacked Like Me"

"The Toilet Papers"

PS "National Lampoon's 'Vacation'" was a really funny movie.....but read the story. They stopped short of putting some of the story in the movie."

OK. You forced me......

Bluto: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Dean Vernon Wormer: They are? Well, as of this moment, they're on DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION!

Larry's good conscience: If you lay one finger on that poor sweet helpless girl, you'll despise yourself forever... I'm proud of you, Lawrence.

Clorette De Pasto: Dad! Mom, Dad, this is Larry Kroger. The boy who molested me last month. We have to get married.

Bluto: [thrusting six-pack into Flounder's hands] My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.

Otter: Better listen to him, Flounder, he's in pre-med.

'Otter': Sophomore dies in kiln explosion? Oh My God! I just talked to her last week... She was going to make a pot for me.

Dean Vernon Wormer: Cut the horse****, son. I've got their disciplinary files right here. Who dropped a whole truckload of fizzies into the varsity swim meet? Who delivered the medical school cadavers to the alumni dinner? Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear. Every spring, the toilets explode.

Greg Marmalard: You're talking about Delta, sir.

Dean Vernon Wormer: Of course I'm talking about Delta, you TWERP!

Bluto: They took the bar! The whole ****ing bar!

Meaner dude: If I was in your shoes, I'd be...

Boon: Leaving! What a good idea.

Katy: Boon, I think I'm in love with a retard.

Boon: Is he bigger than me?

Otter: Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman. Damn glad to meet you.

Boon: Hi, that was Eric Stratton, rush chairman. He was damn glad to meet you.

BTW I have 'Animal House' on CD.

I am curious as to why TCM is sponsoring this? They've done it with some other old classics as well. There is a special intro so I guess they'll explain it there. ;)
Just the thought of the intro music makes me laugh! :D

Just got back from seeing this again on the "Big Screen" and it's still funnier then ever!
You don't realize how much of the picture is lost going down to home viewing! ;)
You pick up on a lot of the little incidentals that make it even funnier!
I can't imagine that movie being made today and that in itself makes it the classic that it is! :D

Whoever put that photo together had decent taste in firearms. It appears to be a 3.5" Model 27.

And I read "Vacation '58" long before it was a movie. The short story actually involved Walt Disney (the man) and a real handgun!

John Hughes made some of my favorite movies, like "Uncle Buck" and "Ferris Beuller's Day Off", but he wrote some really twisted stuff, too. I read all of it, way back when!
