If you could only have 1 J frame, what would it be?

Sadly I do only have one now and it's a model 36. But my previous favorite, and probably the one I would choose if I could only have one, would be the old nickel 38 Bodyguard Airweight I should have kept. The nickel was beginning to flake off beneath the grips from so much sweaty carry and so little proper care, that I sold it. Telling myself I would get another someday. I still plan on it. I loved that little gun and with 148 gr wadcutters I could shoot 3 shot cloverleafs with it a 7 yards, every time.

What was I thinking when I sold that rascal? It had character that I put there all by myself, and it never once failed to go bang. I can be so stupid sometimes. :( Actually had two once upon a time, but one went away with the ex-wife.

I am like others and only have one J frame, a 442, that is my warm weather carry.

My one and only at present. My favorite for carry.

If it was only for carry I'd pick a 638. But for range work the airweights are too punishing for my hand and wrist, so for an all around gun I'd go with a pre-lock 649-3. I like the ability to shoot single action, even though most practice is double action. But you can amaze your friends and mystify your enemies with the accuracy of a snubbie, which I find is easier to do single action.

exactly!

I thought there was only 1 J-frame....the Model 37!

I know it sounds silly, but I think I have all the handguns I need. For spring and summer it is my 37 no dash. Had it a long time and shoot it a lot. Shoots fine. If it ever blows up I'll try to find another like it. It's not pretty but it's tight.:o I wouldn't purposely get rid of it.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on this forum. Travel safely!

Had to let all my J's go a little while back but kept a M&P 340 for warm weather carry.

I would definitely like to replace the 340PD's that are gone now. I really like the Scandium/Titanium J's.

When I get back into building my collection, there will be many J-frames to get.

My only J frame so far. I had to rush to have one and could not find an old one as I would like so I settled on a new Classic line. Truth is: I like it! And because is not vintage I don't baby it. I am also planning to keep it with the stock grips, no matter they hurt my hands the first few hundreds of shots. Now I got much better at holding it and firing as many rounds as I have with me without any discomfort. Maybe one day I will find one clean old one to add.

To answer the question: for me the one J frame would always be the Model 36 Chiefs Special snub, blued with wood grips.

Gets my vote. I bought those grips for my 642. I like a blued gun. They get a nice "patina" with age.

Instead of hitting the like button on every picture before and after this post, consider your J-Frame liked by me. I must admit I never met a J-Frame I didn't like. I had a old 37 that was carried by a Detective as backup. This gun had been ridden hard and put away wet. It looked bad but still shot good. I also had a beutifull 49. I also had a collection of 442s. I got the bug to reduce all the guns around hear and sold most of them. Now that I board you all I'm keeping the few I have left. Something about those J's.
