The ULTIMATE K-38 Combat Masterpiece thread. Serial # database

I've only got one, a -2 from I've been told, 1966.

It has the target hammer, trigger, trigger stop, and diamond target grips. S/N K679203

I had watched it for several days on a local "gun for sale" board as the price dropped from $500.00 to $400.00, $25.00 at a time. I couldn't believe no one else bought it. The diamond targets are pretty pricey themselves I think.

Here's a few more for the Data Base:

Ser.# K120070 (1951)
Ser.# K614638 (1965) 2" snubby
Ser.# K530437 (1962)

Ser.#6K43600 (1974) Mod. 67 but it's still a Combat Masterpiece. Yes?

How about a 5" (IL State Police special order) K k285764 shipped 7/3/57.

It currently wears some non-relieved Targets. When the original owner had it completely brought up to date and re-blued, they put then (1966) current Targets on it. I had to get it back to original.
Schwing!!!

I had a nickel 2" Model 15 that was stolen. Years later I made up for it when a Forum member posted this and I snapped it up; I will post the SN next time I take it out of the safe. I have no clue as to the ship date but I will see what the SCSW says.

It does shoot great; I mostly carry 2" K frames so I really should carry this one.

I have to admit that I have always been so enamored of the Model 10 that I never actually considered the Model 15 to be the best .38 Special ever but I understand the argument.

Harry Jarvis engraved k38 shipped on my Dad's 36th birthday, Oct 20, 1950. Don't have the serial number here, but it starts with K107xxx. It shipped to gunshop in Harry's home town, and engraved outside the factory. One of the few Smith's signed by him. Click on the pics to enlarge for detail look.

Hard to appreciated the deer image even in hand, until you get it enlarged on the computer screen.

Charlie

NOTE: Having Photo bucket issues, replaced with Postimage pics. May show both.

I have a model 15 serial #904xx I believe is 1950 and
model 15 #1912xx with target grips, hammer and trigger from 1953 ?
the elder was my grandfathers the later my wifes uncle

I found this one several months ago, lower left with the "wrong size" Combat grips that are on the gun upper right. The guy that traded it in found the original grips, numbered to the gun and dropped them off at the shop where I bought it. Got the original grips and a nice set of N Combats. #K148993. 1952.
