Put about 300 rounds so far, had a few miss feeds, too many for me. Then the other day after being loaded with one in the chamber I tried clearing it. Could not pull the slide back to eject the round. I called S&W he told me to take it to local pd they would help me clear it. I was a little freaked out, I've owned a Sigma 9 for years and never had a miss feed or failure to eject. Since this will be my main carry I want it right. After taking it to local range and getting it cleared I sent it back to S&W. Although the gun shoots great it has to work flawless or I have no confidence in it.

The misfeeds could have a number of causes (gun, ammo or shooter), but your other problem sounds more like an ammo issue to me. If the round in the chamber was out of spec (e.g., too great an OAL), that could make it very difficult to rack the slide. Good luck with getting a satisfactory resolution.

Enzo: Why would you doubt the wisdom of S&W advising this person to go to the local PD to get the gun cleared? We answered calls like this all the time, as did other agencies in my area.

I'm not Enzo, but I can tell you why I would not recommend going to the local PD. I have fired the qualification course with our local PD and Sheriff's department numerous times, and the gun handling I saw among the officers was just plain scary. Carrying a gun every day does not make one an expert by any means and, especially these days, many of the guys and gals on the force have no interest in and very little experience with firearms.

I agree with granddad. It sounds like a dirty gun or an ammo issue rather than a gun problem. Were you using reloads or factory ammo? Did you clean it well or try it with new factory ammo after you had the jam cleared? I can't imagine what S&W will do other than perhaps polish your chamber.

Let us know the issue once you get the pistol back. I'm guessing recoil spring was a little jacked up.

I've had a similar issue with mine. Won't go into battery and difficult as heck to rack the slide to clear. This is with LRN handloads that run in many other 45 ACP's. I'm still working on it through overall length adjustments.

It was cleaned from shooting on Tues, had miss feeds with fmj ammo, factory Winchester. Loaded with Hornady jhp when the jam occurred. I took it to the range where I shoot and the range officer cleared it for me.

Sorry, but a dirty gun from 300 rounds should not cause this type of problem. Clearly, something is wrong with the gun.

Mine hung up on reloads. I grabbed a box by mistake and I had the same issue. I went back the following week with factory loaded ammo, follower mod and gtg.

That was exactly the issue with my Shield 45. Recoil spring was much stiffer than ones in friend's Shields. Installed a different spring, no more FTF's.

In all seriousness, most law enforcement officers these days receive excellent firearms training and are proficient in safe handling as well as marksmanship, periodic qualifications make certain of that. I also think that given the incidents around our great country, and the world, of people taking out their frustrations on police officers, that it is especially unwise to make such derogatory comments about law enforcement officers as you never now how little it might take to incite someone to violence, I hope we all agree that the vast majority of law enforcement officers are good people doing a tough job and they all would like to return home safe to their families at the end of each shift, but this is just my way of thinking, my $ .02.

My options would be take firearm back to dealer where bought if its a regular dealer many have gunsmiths on staff. Or a local fireing range. My last stop would be. S.O. or P. D .

Finally get my gun back on Thurs July 27, paperwork says "Evaluate/Repair, Polish Barrel/Chamber, Passed Range Testing". When I sent the gun back I was told only to send the gun nothing else. Got the gun back they included another 7 round mag. Finally got to the range today, new mag worked fine. Put another mag in from original purchase, fired one time and hung up, didn't feed. Fired the the rest of the mag after ejecting the mag and tapping the mag to seat bullets. Tried the other 6 round original mag, same thing, miss feed. Put the new mag in worked fine. Put a few more mags through and worked fine. Put original back in, fired once and miss feed. Something must be wrong with the original mags. I'm using FMJ Sellier & Bellot ammo. Disappointed.

The Shield magazines leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. I have had to dis-assemble all of mine, clean and lube them. They have all been bone dry from the factory. And that follower... made out of some weird kind of soft plastic... I really don't like it. Just my opinion...

S&W told you to take it to your police department to have them clear it!!! Are they kidding.....

Maybe not a problem where the OP lives (or in other free states), but if I did that in my loony moonbat state, I'm almost certain I would lose my license and possibly even be facing charges for bringing a loaded gun into a police station. :( No thanks. I'll clear it myself or, if necessary, I'll bring it to a gunsmith.

Do you notice any differences between the new magazine and the original ones? Maybe follower shape or something?
