Nutrisystem ads on Fox News.

Not saying this'll work for anyone else but--here's how I dropped at least 80 pounds. I fell in love with a beautiful woman-bought about 40 packs of Jack Links beef jerkey ( which HEBs had on sale for about 1/2 price) and the jerky replaced a meal a day for awhile- also enjoying high protein tv dinners. After about a week-my stomach shrank so much I couldnt finish a small apple before getting full. Of course, I started going to the gym too-having a lot of incentives to do so. The best incentive-was Sabrina, the 10 or so ladies I met at the gym, etc.

Anyway, over about 9 months, I lost the 80 pounds. However, due to my chronic insomnia, I regained about 3 pounds.

All you have to do is call Nutrisystem and ask the cost of their program for food on a monthly basis and that will probably take your appetite away! Believe me they're in it primarily for the money period!

Gathering the will power to make the change is the hardest part, IMO. Common sense says that veggies are better for the waistline than ice cream. Likewise, getting out of the chair and walking a couple of miles 4-5 days a week, along with light calisthenics. Putting the changes needed into action and keeping on course is the trick.

For the last two months I've made adjustments. No special "diet". Just eating more healthy and easing back into moderate exercise. While trying to lose weight, a "journal" of everything eaten has helped me drop 15 pounds. More calories out than in is the simple version.

Another important saying I've heard is "It's not what you eat between Christmas and New Year that kills you; but between New Years and Christmas". Not really, but the concept is true. Cheating occasionally (within reason) has been my approach. About 10 more pounds and I'll be at my goal. Adding a bit more muscle mass over time will help burn more calories at rest. I may try for an extra 5 pounds just to give a little cushion.

For me this approach worked to keep it off for years. The cheating in both food intake and lack of exercise finally had me too fat again. Now that I'm semi-retired, I can focus once more.

I haven't calc'd it, but I'd bet my diet is at a bare minimum 45% fat. All healthy fats from grass fed beef, pastured pork, olive and avocado oils, leaf lard and grass fed butter. No margarines or other manufactured fakes, no hydrogenated fats. In case anyone hasn't heard, the old paradigm that fat makes you fat has been discarded for some time now.
Granted, excess caloric intake makes you fat, and fats are loaded with calories, but cutting back on good fats and substituting carbohydrates in breads and other baked goods will not cause weight loss, nor will it contribute to heart health. Now, taking a plate of greens and covering it with grated cheese, dressing and a load of croutons and calling it healthy is just fooling yourself, unless it's your only meal of the day.
I like Micheal Pollan's diet advice for the most part : "Eat REAL food, mostly plants, not too much." REAL food being the key. Stay out of the center aisles in the grocery store and shop only in meat, fish, dairy and produce. If it comes in a box, chances are you're better off without it.

My wife eats a lot of salad and works a very physical job. She might sit for about 1/2 hour a day, but is always doing some housework, too. She is gaining weight rapidly and is fighting like anything to keep it off. Obviously, there is something to do with aging and hormones. She's been getting tested and nothing shows as the culprit. She hasn't just been 'trying', she's really fighting it. So I love her all the same for it.
My wife had that problem. We found that she was getting too much calcium and it was causing her thyroid gland to go all wonky.

Because of a degenerative motor nerve condition that started 6 or 7 years ago, my activity level dropped to near zero and I almost ended up in an electric scooty chair. Also My weight went up to 230 pounds (actually that's just when I stopped weighing myself) and walking was getting difficult.
It took time but between my wife and myself we restructured our diets to stay healthy and keep ourselves in a caloric deficit.
A pound of fat is 3,500 calories and I had lotsa pounds to lose.
We joined the YMCA, take spin classes and workout on the weight machines.
Today we went hiking for about 6.5 miles and I weigh 157.5 pounds.

When it comes to weight loss, fats are fats. "Good fats" vs "Bad fats" is valid when it comes to cardiac health and other things, but not weight loss.

When you cut back on fats and calories, that's not substituting for anything, it's cutting back. Carbs are a different issue because they are high in calories even if some are low in fat.

The paradigm has been discarded by people who don't know what they are talking about.

Cut calories, cut fats, eat more fruits and vegetables, exercise (20-30 minutes a day minimum), and you'll lose weight.

Ya lose the 40 on Nutrisystem. Then you're better able to drag your not-so-fat self off the couch and move around more to burn off more calories.

Depending on her age she ought to check with an OB/Gyn or endochinoligist. Poly-cystic ovarian syndrome will cause the body to not metabolize sugar correctly. Taking metformin (an off the books use-not yet approved by the FDA for this purpose) helps the body metabolize the sugar correctly and the weight loss can be startling.
