Loaded Moon Clip Storage

I just saw an old thread where a member made a moon clip rack that fit in an ammo can.
I just thought I would share an easy, cheap alternative.
Flambeau makes divided fishing tackle boxes (#4007, I think) that hold 24 moon clips nicely organized and easy to use. I carry 3 of these to the range, and they work real well for me.
At 6lbs. 7ounces each, my load going to the range is 25.875lbs..
I carry them in a Craftsman 12" tool tote, and have room for all the other essentials. What I need now is a good storage container for the empty moon clips to keep them handy and safe between uses. Share what you use, please.

I use a similar set up for my 5 shot moonclips only lined with some cushion material.

Try to find an old RX bottle sized so your clips fit inside.

I am using Rx bottles now. I was kind of hoping for a nicer fix that I hadn't thought of yet. Everyone is different. Somebody on this forum will have an idea we will both like.

For storing my empty clips, I use the containers from Revolver Supply.
Come in several colors to identify different clips.

I just pile mine in a 30 cal ammo can with a piece of cardboard in the bottom...........

Here's mine. Obviously one for 45 ACP and the 9 mm has 2 holders, 1 for the 5 rnd 940's and 1 for the 7 rnd 986. I just put the empty with cases still attached on one of the rods. There's plenty of room for the moon clip tools in each can and extra unloaded clips in med bottles.

I use the same Flambeau Model 4007-1 plastic cases for 45 ACP moon clip storage. They hold 24 loaded 6-round clips (144 rounds) and are available in the fishing section at our local Walmart for less than $4.00 each. Quite a bargain.

The 4007 cases are $4.69 now at Walmart, but are still a great fix for loaded .45acp moon clips.

I think I will keep using med bottles til someone has a really different idea.
I hate to pay $6.00 to ship a couple of $2.00 bottles.

unclewheelgun I have been useing An old plastic tackle box myself and it works great. I also use a Rx bottlr that is just about the perfect size for the moon clips. I have a 986 7 shot and they fit well in the trays of the box all loaded up. If I can later I will get a picture of mine set up to go.

Cigar box holds about 25 loaded moon clips for my 325PD.
Fits nicely in range bag.

Plastic cases

I originally used tin cans that fitted 3 rows of 5ea moon clips, but the lids were press fit and kept coming loose in the range bag. Then I went to a plastic case, but mine's from Cabela's fishing dept. It's a Plano 3650. Fit's 7 of the 8 round 9mm clips across and the smaller section in front is perfect for holding unused clips.

That works well, but I like mine FULL of loaded clips, and bring them home full of clips of empty brass. No room for the empty clips.
Fortunately, I just realized that I never have more than 8 empties at a time anyway. I only own 80 moon clips right now, and 72 of them are loaded for the range at all times.
I think I'll just leave the empties on the back corner of my 'pistol bench'. When I unload and reload clips after the range, I just rotate the 8 off the bench into service, and I will always have 8 sitting out of harms way.
No need for a container.

Gosh, picture must have been taken in between range trips.

The boxes, when full of loaded clips, are a great, compact way to carry them to and fro. Just offering an alternative source, though I like Flambeau. Used to use their universal loading trays which they don't make anymore.

So, unclewheelgun, since you're in Lakeland, will I see you at the IRC in November? It'll probably be the last one at USA in Frostproof as they've gone out for bid for next 2 years.

I am planning to be there! We don't get much 'revolver action' in central Florida.
I finally got a chance to really shoot my 625 JM since putting Wilson Combat springs in, and doing a little internal polishing.
I am really loving this revolver now that it has a proper trigger!
Attached is the first 24 rounds at 25 feet. The double action trigger is so good I can shoot groups almost as good as this single action group.

Gave me a hard time about it being empty. Been on beach vaca so haven't had time, but here is mine full. Plastic cases like Unclewheelgun, or mine or any number of others, work really well. Many other models seem to fit the moon clips whether 6rnd .45 or 8rnd 9mm. Better than cans and better than acrylic tubes I've seen. Easy to find. I can easily get 3 of these in a home depot tool carrier along with my gun, eyes and ears.

I was just packing some up when I saw this post. My method is pretty much on the cheap, just some wooden cigar boxes with foam under and over the loaded clips they hold 28 loaded clip each. I do vacuum seal the boxes for extended storage, certainly not necessary but it keeps the brass all nice and shiny.

That's cool. One of my sons works at a cigar place and has access to those. I've just got the paperboard ones. Not everybody has access to these. I think unc and I where pointing out something cheap anybody could go buy, but that might spark creative juices for others.

Vacuum seal for long term storage? That's a thought. Some people rotate their storage ammo (their bug out stuff, their SHTF stuff). My emergency stuff is all commercial ammo so I'm confident it'll last a long time. But still not a bad thought as an extra precaution.

Well I smoke cigars so that's were I get the boxes. As far as the vacuum sealing, I reload most of what I store and vacuum sealing seams to keep the brass as good as when I reloaded it.
Probably would still fire fine without that but I like the look as if it were freshly loaded, no oxygen means no tarnish.
