Finally removed the lock & installed a Plug...

The 27-8 did come with the old style cylinder release, so I didnt have to change that. The only things I have changed are the rear sight slider (to a shorter one), the stocks and the Plug.
One thing that makes me okay with the cylinder not being recessed is that it is cut for use with or without full moonclips. I really like that feature enough to overlook it not being recessed. But I agree with you on that one.
Speaking of stocks, have you got yours that you ordered from John & Jennifer yet?

No, not yet. I sent a query to Jennifer on the progress on them a few days ago by email but I have had no answer back yet. And I looked yesterday to check when was the last time she was logged on the forums and it has been over a week. I hope there isn't anything bad happening with them or their family.

Though I've owned S&W revolvers for many years, this summer was the first time I totally stripped one. Everything, except the front sight. Putting the Infernal Lock (IL) back together took a visit to Youtube. My opinion? What a piece of ca-ca waiting to screw up.

I had intended on just ignoring the lock, but now I decided it will always bother me just knowing how it works. So I just ordered a plug, which I will try in my new 629 5". If I like it, then all my "new" S&W's will get "the plug".

I honestly don't see the point. It does not change the fact that it is still a recent manufactured revolver that came with a lock. If the fear is that it could engage when firing, well they do make Loctite green 620, applied correctly it will not move. Just my thoughts on it.

The point is, it's a "feature" that nobody asked for or wanted except the Clintons and their anti-gun minions. Removing the lock and installing a plug is an owner's way of telling those people to go pound sand. I wish S&W would work up the courage to do away with the lock, but I don't think they ever will except in limited-run custom or reproduction guns where they can more easily get away with it.

In 16 years they haven't yet. Not even once, and I've been watching.... closely.

The only exception, of course, being the Centennial frame guns.

Keep me posted!

I heard back from Jennifer shortly after my last post. She says she was out of town for the last week or so and she came back with the flu.:( And she said that John will be starting to mill the N frame square blanks tomorrow, so I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. John will be using his last Kingwood blank for my set of stocks I have on order!

GunarSailors,

Your revolver is very elegant.

Can you briefly describe the gun ownership process in your country? Also how do you acquire ammunition?

Thanks, White Cloud

Thanks,
I am an American and purchased/acquired them there in the US. I could tell you about the process of importing in Denmark and exporting out of the US, and all the applicable US State Dept paperwork. Also I just moved here a couple years ago with my wife (she is Danish) and my daughter, so I haven't bought one here YET. But it won't be long. I ll let you know.
The ammunition is for sale at the store at the gun club that I got to. I am allowed to reload if I want to.

I asked a S&W rep at the 2017 SHOT and another at NRA. Both claimed, unequivocally, the Locks are here for good.

On that same topic...does anyone here know of any good videos showing the process of lock removal? I'm a newbie to tinkering with revolvers and need a good "how to" video. I attempted the process once with my 627PC...but unfortunately it was only after I'd taken it apart that I realized the Youtube video I was watching showed the process for a coil mainspring (instead of the leaf mainspring on my revolver:mad:) So far, I have been unable to find any videos which will help me navigate the process with my revolvers.

May be straying into political area but,

Why did/doesn't S&W put internal locks on semi-autos? Why just pick on revolvers? My recent purchase of an M&P and a Shield didn't include such a lock.

Did the political entities (Maryland?) only push for locks on revolvers and not semi's?

Reason I ask is that would seem to hold out hope one day they would drop the lock. Or make it optional.

I have never had a lock engage unintentionally, has anyone here?
Is this just visual or does it affect or improve the trigger?

Yes, while it's uncommon locks have been engaged unintentionally. It's mostly cosmetic. When I replaced a couple of locks I could see where the flag was dragging on the side of the hammer. So yes. Trigger pull can be affected at least a little.

Here's tear down and reassembly. Hope it helps

INTERNAL LOCK REMOVAL

To get the original part out there's a brief narrative I put on that page that was sent to me by another member from here that emailed me after he put his parts in.
