They dreamed up a new reason to close the public schools today,,,
The temperature was 31 degrees F.,,, wind gusts up to 20 MPH,,,

The wind chill was "SO SEVERE!!", that they closed school ALL DAY!!

We need to help these school systems,, they need new reasons to close for the day,

Has your local public school come up with any creative ideas for closing school??

Help me out, I will forward the new ideas,,,

Yeppers, teachers get another paid day off and then they'll complain about not getting paid enough just before the next school year starts.

...made it through 12 years of school in Denver Colorado...and I don't remember ever having a weather day off...

...it was 8 degrees with a 20 mile an hour wind here the other night...the Basset Hounds and I didn't want to go out but we (they) didn't have a choice...we made good time though...no lollygagging...

yep an old WI boy here, if we had a snow day it was due to real snow and cold (or possibly bus issues being out in rural farm country).

The few years we lived in SC, I'd just laugh when they closed schools by us cuz Atlanta had a couple inches of snow and it may hit SC..... i understood the lack of plows and infrastructure, but still had to laugh. Esp when the weather people would talk about their arctic blast that was above zero.

lol

A lot of schools in the more western counties of North Carolina closed as well.

While I inwardly laugh about what might be today's coddled kids, and how I remember waiting at the bus stop with snow coming down so hard you could barely see the streetlights...I think the school boards' concerns are more for ice and black ice than it is for cold temps.

If you have temps and wind chills to down around five degrees, that stuff isn't going to melt off those rural roads anytime soon. Especially the way a lot of mountain roads are almost completely shaded by trees on both sides.

I look back on my cold weather school days with fondness now, but I guess in today's litigious times, we have to play the better-safe-than-sorry game. And you really would hate to see kids get hurt because the bus slid off the road.

Around here, there have been a few occasions where the forecast for snow caused public schools to close. It's really funny and sad when that happens and then it does not snow.

You DO realize that no one has any idea where "around here" IS don't you?

Might want to consider updating your profile to include a location if you want to reference such terms as "around here" and convey any meaning to them. :)

I grew up in Europe, France, Spain, Italy, never missed a day due to weather, and in winter it got so cold the gosh darn waterfalls in the alps froze. I know because we were nestled in the Alps. 4 inches of ice under snow on the roads and neg temps and schools still ran.

People here on top of not knowing how to drive in bad weather, can't take a little cold.
