This is a Colt .41 with the rare, scarce, or less common three inch barrel. It has the two line barrel address. I think this would be an ideal defense gun circa 1903 for someone wanting a compact gun larger than .38 caliber. The Colt grips aren't numbered to the gun so I put the stags on it.

That’s a business-like piece of machinery.

I had one just like it but traded it away. I found its twin a few years ago at a gunshow. The seller was trying to pass off the 3 digit number on the thumbpiece as the serial number. I was going to show him the real number on tbe butt, but it had mysteriously been ground off. I passed.

Colt serial numbers are in the crane cut, not the butt! Military guns are the exception. So, it wasn't ground off, it never was there!

The gun has the same three digit number in the frame behind the crane as on the cylinder release which must be assembly numbers. On the butt in two lines is an obvious six digit serial number but not dead center.

Great old Colt Wyatt Burp! I'm lovin' it! Caliber, configuration, and appearance all speak to me.

I've examined hundreds of Colt New Army and New Navy revolvers, the commercial versions of the military issue variants. I own three examples of these revolvers. All always have their serial numbers on the butts, just like one sees on the Colt Single Action Army.

Someone (Keith?) said that the 41 long Colt was a much better cartridge than the 38==far better than the paper ballistics say.

I've had a dozen 41 LCs and like the cartridge. I've had several Thunderers and Bisleys, and an Army Special. I like the cartridge but you really need to reload. PM me for details.
