WHO LIKES S0S FOR BREAKFAST?

Of course I am referring to that delicious breakfast item we
always found on the menu at our favorite mess hall.

Just call me crazy, but I kinda liked SOS for breakfast.

I was on KP once at Lackland in 1952, unloading a truck, &
carrying big boxes of frozen meat in to the cooler. I noticed
the label said something like U.S. Government inspected horse
meat.

Never tried the horse meat variety. For those who may not have been properly initiated in the military, what we are discussing is ground beef in cream gravy served over toast. Lovely stuff! Even better with a couple of fried eggs on top. Real stick-to-your-ribs breakfast that will carry you through to lunch.

My father was a WWII vet. He used to talk about it, but I never knew if really liked it or not. The thought of it makes me nauseous.

Used to really enjoy that, even in civilian life. Been ages since I had it, but would love to get it again.
Don't really care what kind of meat it is, meat's meat!

I LOVE it!! I make it here at home. Sometimes using the Armor dried beef and some times using ground sirloin. Stauffers puts it out in frozen packages but it isn't as good as home made.

No. I hated the smell of it when my mother made it for my father, a career marine. I hated it when it was served on the mess deck during my servitude to Uncle Sugar. I don't live vicariously through the memories of my youth, so I still hate it.

got introduced to it at Lackland AFB in 69 and had it off and on for 21 years. the best I ever had was made by our chefs at a remote site in Turkey. now I prefer sausage gravy and biscuits. good old southern breakfast with a couple of over easy eggs on top. yummmm. lee

I have always loved the stuff, and am particularly fond of the variety made with the dried beef. This delicious breakfast is a staple for me.

Loved it for 22 years. Still make it about once per month. Wife does not like it. Oldest son (veteran) loves it.

I wish I could have SOS for breakfast, but I'm trying to keep my weight in check. The cooks in the AF made the best breakfasts - omlet with anything you wanted in it, hashbrowns, SOS, big huge OJ. If I ate now like I did 40 years ago in the AF I'd weigh 800 pounds.

I remember one of my buddies in VN-an E-6-saying he knew he had been in the Army too long, shaking his head. So I said, "what do you mean?" and he replied that he had gotten up early (we worked at night) because they were having SOS at the mess hall!

For a change of pace make it with bulk breakfast sausage. Use the sausage grease to make gravy for biscuits.
