Dick's is taking a beating

The best 3 years of my life. I stopped shopping "there" some time ago. This new policy sure has plenty of people talking about them though.

My nephew worked there until two weeks ago. They told him hours and benefits would be cut for all employees starting in August. He went and found a new job selling furniture. The consensus among his past co-workers is that dick's is toast.

I have been a Dick's store twice, I bought a pocket knife in one. Of course I had to travel 400 miles to see the store. They have a lot of shoes and golf clubs and clothes, no hand guns.

I did buy my older son a shotgun in Dick's once. Just stopped in there to let him see the difference in a 12 and 20. After I calculated the sale price minus the $50 today only discount, plus the $100 mail in rebate, they almost gave me a new 870 Remington. Should have got both a 12 and 20.

Whatever works best for you, but personally, Dicks won't get another penny from me, or my family. I've got kids involved in sports. What I did this season was to go into the store, 'shop' for what we needed and then ordered the gear Online. Just took notes of brand, product name/sku and used Google/Amazon to find the best non-Dick's deal. Tons of alternatives out there. Saved a lot of money in the process...!

I hope Dick's goes bust. Companies should stick to providing value for its customers and not get involved in politics/social engineering efforts. We need to vote with our wallets. I don't know of any mass-market retailer that can survive pissing off half the population.

Otherwise, Dicks will go the way of all the other businesses that bowed to short-sighted lack of vision.

The Snowflakes don't do brick-and-mortar. They do online purchasing. If a brick-and-mortar lacks the common sense to see that fact, they're doomed when they get on board.

The way to really hurt them is to not even enter the store. Weather you buy guns, ammo or swim suits - they still make money. The idea is to hurt them in the register since that is all they care about at the end of the day!

Maybe they will, maybe they won't. If they do, I feel sorry for the employees who'll lose their jobs, or those who have already lost their jobs due to the company's staffing and other corporate practices. It may have been the only job some of them could get, wherever they live.
