Watched the Jimmy Buffet concert from 2006 at Wrigley Field in Chicago last night. I still can't keep my feet still: Margaritaville, A Pirate Looks At 40, Southern Cross, One Particular Harbor, and even Allan Jackson's 5:00 Somewhere. And soooo much more. I love his music and his style and his attitude. I deeply regret that I have never had the chance to see him and his band in person. Nobody sits down at his show but everyone has a blast!

Oh yeah. Somewhere I have a three or four CD set of his best.

He has a lot of good ones. Maybe "Knees of My Heart" is my favorite. Or maybe "Little Miss Magic." Love that one.

But this one has always resonated. Especially back in the day when I rode a desk for a living:

"The Weather Is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful"

He worked hard all year just wanted a few weeks alone
But his old lady's into modeling,
She can't stay away from the phone
Besides she bitches about the mosquitoes
She says "Down there there is nothing to do"
Her ******* phone never stops ringing
He'll try the service in a day maybe two

Well, he's on his third drink before the
wheels of the plane leave the ground
Making points with the stewardess
climbing over Long Island Sound
She's also spending some time on the island
Too much city madness gives her the blues
They make a date to go dancing and dining
Seems neither has that much to lose

The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
My thoughts aren't too clear but don't run away
My girlfriend's a bore, my job is too dutiful
Hell, nobody's perfect would you like to play
I feel together today

Well now that was just the start of
a well-deserved over due binge
Meanwhile back in the city certain
people are starting to cringe
His lawyers are calling his parents
His girlfriend doesn't know what to think
His partners are studying their options
He's just singing and ordering drinks

The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
The skies are too clear life's easy today
The beer is too cold, the daiquiri's too fruitful
There's no place like home when it's this far away
I don't care what they say

He's going back to New York pack it up
and let everyone know
It was something that he should have done
such a long time ago
Still time to start a new life in the palm trees
Billy Clyde wasn't insane
And it doesn't work out there'll never be any doubt
That the pleasure was worth all the pain

The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
The skies are too clear, life is easy today
The beer is too cold, the daiquiri's too fruitful
There's no place like home when it's this far away
I need time for to play
Time for to play

Jimmy Buffett Lyrics - The Weather Is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful

I always liked his music and still do. Never saw him live but always wanted to just couldn;t seem to get there. A lot of his music made a lot of sense if you listen to it and think about it. I know if I change my Latitude my Attitude will also change.

Long time Parrot Head - have his discography several concerts back in the day and now we visit his restaurants. Jimmy Buffet tells of our beach vacations pretty accurately:

Morris' Nightmare (abridged)

Take a little trip
They only see the islands from a tacky cruise ship
Buy a little liquor
Buy some sea shells
Husband tries to sleep
Wife just yells
Morris, you can sleep when you get home
Down in the islands where the happy folks stay
Everybody do what biwana man say
He say it's ok, it's ok
It's alright, it's alright
Do what you wanna, do what you like
-- spoken:
"Morris! oh for ******'s sake Morris, you can sleep when you get home. this Is supposed to be a vacation you know. we come all the way down to Miami. We could go someplace nice like seaworld. I would like to go see, Tony Orlando Is playing in miami beach. we could do some nice things like that. but no What do we do, we have to go down to this ******* swamp. this is a swamp
Morris. you call this an island? this is a resort? it's full of mosquitoes
And bugs and just is terrible, Morris. are you listening to me? "
"****, *****, ****!"

made enough money to buy Miami but I pissed it away so fast

I saw JB in Memorial Auditorium downtown Louisville in about 1975. Come Monday was on the radio and about 2,000 fans in the audience. Great show in a classic venue.

I lived in Key West '72 to '75. First time I paid to see him was in the Key West High School auditorium, 1975, $2 I think, place was less than half full. Saw him here and there in those days in the local KW bars. Met him in St Thomas in the late 70's, his boat was at the marina across from mine. I've been to around 60 shows, got all the music and books. Last concert I went to was a year ago, no local show this year. I guess I'm a Parrothead.

Someone call??? I bumped into him on Duval in Key West. He was "supervising" a crew covering the open air windows on Margaritaville. He was playing there that night, and didn't want people on the sidewalk getting a free show.
Talked to me like an old chum. Gave me a free pass to get in that night.
Doesn't get any better than that.

I've been a fan since '77 when Changes in Latitudes was released, but I've still never seen him.

We were in Key West in December of 2010. We rented a condo at a place called Papa's Hideaway and stayed there three days. We had no idea that the Parrothead Convention was happening at that same time! Duvall Street was wild, and beads were a flyin'!

Like I said, didn't see Jimmy, but some of his Coral Reefer Band members were there.

One of the best compliments I've ever received was when a friend told me that I remind him of JB. (I don't look like him, it was all about my love of music and the beach, and my easy-going attitude). I told my wife, and she brought me back to reality. She said no, I remind him of the type of guy Jimmy sings about. JB himself is one of the hardest working men in show business, and that was not me!

Can't claim to be an official ParrotHead butI saw him in Gainesville, FL at the U in 1979.
Some people were complaining in the local papers that
Jimmy was charging for the concert. "He used to play for
free!" Well, I figure, that was then wasn't it.

Song I recall well from the show was "God's Own Drunk."

Bought an early album (vinyl!) without hearing it.
Was not disappointed.

I have been playing his CD "License To Chill" quite a bit lately.
I played "Trip Around The Sun," the duet with Martina McBride
recently due to a birthday event in my vicinity.

Count me in. Some favorites when I'm kicked back.

Manana
Nautical Wheelers
Boat Drinks
Stars on the Water
Who's the Blonde Stranger
Cuban Crime of Passion
The Great Filling Station Hold Up
Come Monday

Who's The Blond Stranger is one of my all time favorite videos. His poetry and his sense of humor really come together in that one. He is one of the best story tellers ever.
