All firearms must have a trigger lock on them, new or used . Said lock will remain on trigger until it is bought and boxed for the buyer .This means you will be unable to check the action before you take it home ,they are also stating that all used guns bought as is NO return ,without any implied warranty , Who will buy with these conditions ?
I think that upper management should be informed of the results of this action

Cabelas is too far me to drive just to check out what they have in stock. It's 85 miles each way and I would have to pass through Baton Rouge to get there and back and Baton Rouge is such a darned bottleneck.

Sportsman's Warehouse in Colorado Springs makes you show clear anytime you bring a gun into the store to fit a holster. But the counter guy told me that at least once a day some idiot comes in and swears up and down the gun is empty then racks a round out of the chamber.

Sounds like they got a new legal firm to represent the company.

I was in Cabela's day before yesterday and a store employee was pushing a shopping cart around the store installing trigger locks on all firearms. I asked why and he said there had been a suicide by a walk in customer using a store gun and a round of ammo he brought with him. The clerk said it happened at a store in Missouri.

And thats Cabela's fault?

I'm sure he said it, and he may have heard it from somebody official with a Cabela's name tag on his/her shirt, but "Nope . . . "

There is only one Cabela's in Missouri, and The St. Louis Post Dispatch has not reported a shooting at Cabela's. Since the Cabela's here is in a dying mall in a crime ridden area of north St. Louis County, this would have been big news . . .

Their stores, their rules. Lots of other places to shop if you disagree with their policies.

I keep waiting on someone to start throwing around the magic word "boycott".

But used guns being sold "as is"? Why not? That's at the seller's discretion, whether it's a dealer or a private seller. Every gun I've sold on this forum over the years has been sold as is, and that's been made clear beforehand to potential buyers. There have been no comebacks or complaints so far. If the buyer knows that's a condition of the sale, fine...no one is forcing him to purchase the gun. Most knowledgeable buyers...like people on this forum...are able to make an evaluation of a gun regarding its mechanical condition.

I think that upper management should be informed of the results of this action

Why would you think management doesn't know about it already? Who do you think approved the policies in the first place?

Cabela's here in MA has always been over-the-top crazy re: "The Rules", but they did allow you to at least check the action on a gun you were trying to buy. Now, I guess it is going to be even worse. :( I didn't think that was possible. :o

The worst part at our Cabela's was always the checkout process. It took forever and the employees handing your gun were NOT competent at all. I do not make that statement lightly. I could elaborate, but it is pointless. Do yourself a big favor and buy your new guns someplace else.

Local Academy Sports has had this policy for years.

BTW . . . I have never bought a gun from them.

Short story: I have a friend who used to work for the coroner picking up and transporting bodies. He handled about 500. He says you just can't imagine all of the ways people come up with killing themselves. Cabelas putting locks on guns will have zero effect. Double ought zero.

Cabelas is either a 100 or 50 miles from me and across a state line in both cases, and prices are higher than a cat's back.
I believe I can muddle along with the LGS's here.

I try to stop in the Cabela's in northwest Arkansas and Bass Pro in Little Rock whenever I'm in the area, a couple of times a year or so. I like to check out their hunting supplies.

I've never once even walked up to their gun counter.
