Extreme Threat to the NRA!

I applaud the ACLU for taking a position they think is right — even if unpopular with many of their supporters
The ACLU is remarkable that way. They don’t care about political affiliations. If they believe Constitutional rights are being thwarted, they’re in. They drive me nuts at times, but I respect them.

Reminds me of the time I met Pete Seeger, and helped him clean up a bit after a fish fry on the Hudson. He said the thing about the United States is that, whatever the time or situation, there is always someone who will stand up and say, “I got my Constitutional rights!”

It’s true, and it’s a good thing. Makes me proud of our country.

I've read the National rifleman Mag. since the late 1940s, been a NRA member for 53+ years, and a life member for 50+ years. I believe that qualifies me to voice an opinion.

There are some extremely brilliant minds opposing our 2nd amendment rights, for whatever reason. History shows us, that the finest organisation can be destroyed, by causing their leaders to fight among themselves, and That, will certainly destroy any organisation.

This is being accomplished by the opponents of the NRA, the second amendment, and consequently our gun rights, at this very moment.

I've watched this take place for a long time, I think that the damage has been done, and doubt that anything can be done about it now.

The third president of our, once great USA, foresaw this, and predicted what would happen, to deny us of our rights, when he was our President. His writings can be read on this matter, if one is interested. The things that he predicted, that will have to be done, to correct this situation, is, I believe near at hand. Now it remains to be seen, how much we value our guaranteed constitutional rights.

I hope that my opinion on this matter, already being discussed, won't get me censured.

Thanks.

Chubbo

No offence at what you are saying, but I sure hope you are wrong. Once the second amendment falls, the first amendment will soon follow.

If either falls, I will predict a revolution in this country. I sure hope I'm not around (nor any of my ancestors) to see it.

I've read everything I can find on this situation for the last couple of weeks, and it's become clear that there's been serious mismanagement of NRA resources and the organization needs to have some new people at the helm. I've been a member and supporter for 40+ years and have helped to raise over a hundred thousand dollars with the Friends of NRA over the last 20 years. I'll continue to do so, but I'd like to see NRA management take their fiduciary duties more seriously, and it's apparent that they're just going on defense and have no plans to change. It pains me to say this.

I recommend at present that we take a practical attitude in some ways similar to anti-communist Churchill when Germany invaded Russia:"If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favourable reference to the devil in the House of Commons". There is a serious threat of our rights being permanently infringed, lets not divide ourselves like the French in 1940 for the opposition to defeat in detail. I am not minimizing anything that happened in WWII or saying that anyone is Hitler, just making a historical analogy.

I have no clue what is going on.

But what I do know is that there are some serious challenges to the Second Amendment on the horizon.

It isn't the first time, either. They've opposed numerous bans on NRA advertising on public transportation, on a First Amendment basis.

Gotta admire people with principles. I wish the 2A supporters did the same.

I find myself in the same category. Would it be possible for a member or moderator here that's very familiar with what is/has currently happening to summarize it for the rest of us? IMO: The LAST thing we need at this critical juncture is mass infighting in the NRA!!

Pharmer seems to have it about right. Which matches what I heard from someone who was at the Meeting of the Members on Saturday.

The Board is meeting (or maybe already met) today to try and figure out what to do.

I won't be surprised if Wayne retires. He's certainly old enough and has been at it long enough.

That way, there is no clear cut "winner" and the BOD can appoint someone new.

I expect that they lawsuit will be settled before the matter goes to "Discovery." No sense in giving free information to the enemy.

Those are just my guesses, I have no inside information.

I was an NRA member for many years until some of Mr. LaPierre's statements revolted me. I rejoined last year and just renewed a couple of weeks ago, in spite of my feelings about Mr. LaPierre. Retirement seems like a good option.

She is one smart lady and a great spokesperson. I'm sure she has a "favorite" dog in the fight. She ain't telling. Joe

Meh. She's never said or done anything that particularly impressed me. Although I was mildly amused to see her hocking super berries on late night infomercial TV.

The ACLU believes the 2A is a collective, not individual right. I’ve never seen them support the 2A, but could be wrong.

Second Amendment | American Civil Liberties Union

They do not support the 2A at all. They would like to see it repealed by Congress, or failing that the Supreme Court.

On the other hand, they truly believe that government should not punish anyone for expressing an opinion, and they put their money where their mouth is.

Funny as "news" develops. Apparently Ollie was accusing Wayne of financial shenanigans while he made a $40 million deal with p.r. firm Ackerman. More will be revealed. Joe
