Today is National One Hit Wonder day so I give you Gene Hughes, Ruthie's uncle. He was a kind, gentle man that finally lost his battle with alcoholism. He knew he was a "one-hitter" and admittedly liked the attention it brought him.

He had a small publishing/booking agency in Nashville that kept him tethered to the industry. He introduced me to some Nashville cats and got me gigs.

There have been/are a lot of great single hit songs out there. Got any favorites?

Anita Ward "Ring my Bell"
Neighbor must have passed out while playing the record with a bad skip.
"Ring my Be... ring my be... ring my be... for best part of an hour.

Terry Jacks version of Seasons in the Sun.
Song played while I was jammed up against a pretty girl on a centrifugal carnival ride.

Memories.

Going local!
The Fireballs from Raton, NM.
They Recorded in Clovis, NM with Norman Petty just like what's his name from nearby Lubbock.
The Fireballs hit NO.1 with Sugar Shack.
Their next biggest hit was Bottle of Wine, which climbed to no. 9.
So they may be a Double Hitter?
I prefer the Tribute to Vino.

Now that's a blast from the past. I remember that song, but I don't think I've heard it in...heck, I can't remember when I heard it last. My sister had an 8 track of The Casinos and what must have been one of the earliest 8 track car stereos. The thing was huge and bolted to the floor in front of the tranny hump in her '68 LeMans convertible. She loved playing that song and singing along while driving. Thanks for the memories Rusty:)

My contribution is "In The Summertime" by Mungo Jerry.
