640 pro

I wouldn’t pay retail for a new one with a lock, but I picked up a 640-1 pro a few months ago for $600. I really like it and carry it a lot. Action is really starting to smooth out after a few hundred rounds and the sights are great by J-frame standards. I put a CT grip on it which gives me full purchase on it and cushions the backstrap nicely. It’s very manageable with even really hot loads. I only use a moon clip on my SD load I carry so I can quickly eject them and carry speed strips for a reload. I’ve tried doing quick reloads with moonclips, but on a small J-frame, they’re really thin and flexible and tough for me to drop in quickly. I’ve trained with speedloaders, so I trust myself more with them in a stressful situation.

I bought one, had the trigger tuned and no amount of money could "buy it"!

That is a good looking wheelgun! I like the new style barrel with those classic Pachmayrs. Maybe it is just me, but I do not like the new rubber grips that Smith puts on the revolvers now. The Hogues, Pachmayrs, and Uncle Mike's were far better in my opinion.

I concur, whoever is making new Smith grips has hands the size of a 6 year old.

I like Bodyguards and wanted a 649 Pro. It doesn't look like that is going to happen so I bought a 640 Pro. I prefer revolvers and wanted a small frame model that had great sights and was snag free. I gave thought to the Wiley Clapp SP101 but that is even heavier than the 640 Pro. It would also need the hammer spur removed for me to consider it. My 640 had to go back to the mothership for warranty work but it looks like they did a good job. I look forward to shooting it a bunch.

I love mine. The trigger was great right out of the box. An Apex Tactical Duty/Carry Spring Kit made it event better.

I just picked up a brand new one and it doesn't have a lock. I didn't think any 640 pro was made with a lock

I just picked up my new 640-1 Pro today. I have been debating with myself on this for about a year before finally making the choice. Since I purchased from a range/LGS I was able to shoot a box of .38 that i had with me. I was very impressed with it right out of the box. After the first cylinder I was able to get a feel for it and had a decent by my standards outing.
