Sp101 4.2”

I have the .327 version and like it ...

Is there any way to mount a dot and keep the rear sight? Also, how far away was that?

I've got the 4.2" in .357. I bought it for a woods gun that I could always have on me, no matter the hiking/hunting attire, and had a barrel long enough to get the most of the round, yet be easy to carry. It handles the heaviest and hottest .357 out there just fine, the grip is small but works well and plinking with .38s is very enjoyable. I carry it mostly in a field type holster. I also had an IWB holster made for it and find myself often carrying it this way too. For some of my Sitka hunting pants that don't have real belts, this IWB with clip works fantastic! Great guns - very much overbuilt. As mention above, the factory trigger isn't the best. I plan on polishing it up some plus I've picked up a new set of springs from Wolff that I need to install. Apparently that helps quite a bit as well.

Have you tried longer range plinking with light .38s? Thinking if you can hit the head of a squirrel or rabbit it would still be intact for dinner with low velocity 38.

I also bought a 101 in 327 Federal and have to say I am happy with it. Trigger has gotten better with some use and like most handguns..it is truly more accurate than the person holding it(me)

I have not but now that you've presented the idea, I may just give it a go on one of the next outings. I should hit the range first, with intended light ammo just to see where it hits different to the normal heavy stuff. Sounds fun!

I have one in .357 magnum. I originally bought it to replace a M60 3" that had been my woods gun. When I first got it, the hammer was so stiff to draw back that I thought there was something wrong with it. I replaced the springs and it was better. However, it never did smooth out as much as any of my smiths. The rear sight uses a tiny little screwdriver to adjust. Like the kind you buy for glasses. Also, there are no clicks to the adjustment. Beyond that it works just fine. Not as well balanced as my M60 was but that is probably subjective. It's just been sitting in my safe for quite a while as I've started using my M66 as my woods gun. Probably going to sell the darn thing on GB here pretty soon.

How many of their guns are sold in Canada anyway?
Can’t be very many. Maybe a couple of hundred per year?

As a long passed member here and a friend used to say "If it's illegal to carry a handgun in the bush, why does every trading post in the NW territories sell holsters?"

Anyone own these? What are your thoughts? What about extended accuracy for plinking? Seems like they would make a good trail gun.

I have a 4" (before the 4.2" were made) in .32 H&R Magnum. Loaded to nearly 1400 FPS (yes, it is a true magnum load!) and my cast bullet (hard Lyman 3118) it shoots like a rifle. I can hit pop/beer cans regularly with it at 100 yards, really. That is with the factory iron sights. How is that for plinking accuracy?

FWIW the gun has had a trigger job so others complaints aren't applicable! Note my signature line, I do know how to fix Ruger triggers!
