Strange gun show "buyer"

Not too long ago I had a table at a show put on by a local veterans organization. Everything had a 3x5 card giving information and price. One item was a Ruger bi-centennial revolver that was still in the box with a Montgomery Wards price label showing the original retail price of $134.50. A buyer had looked at this several times and on his last stop at the table threw $135 down stating that I was obligated to sell to him at the price marked on the box and walked away with the gun. Show management got involved and I got the gun back only after the box was damaged. Possibly the last show for me.

buyer can get a 1917 Colt .45 for only $29.95. There are a lot of guns
(and holsters) I wish we could still buy at the old price sticker.

I would have never let him have it at that price to begin with. It's your property, you get to set the price. That was obviously someone else's price from many years ago.

It was awful, but I found a lot of cool stuff at one table after looking for four hours through plastic pistols, black rifles, and velcro-covered nylon

Exactly my thought. As soon as he walked away with the firearm without your consent, it was Theft of a Firearm, a serious Felony in most jurisdictions and he should have been charged as such. Some times people have to be made to understand their actions have serious consequences.

I sure would have...maybe threaten him a bit with the possibility of charges filed for theft of a firearm if he was recalcitrant in the least.

Suppose this "buyer" thought his plan was clever. If he'd walked out the door and driven off would a prosecutor have taken the case? His defense would be that he paid the price asked for the merchandise. There's some kind of thief or scammer drooling over every thing that has value.

I saw something similar at the NGD (National Gun Day) show in Louisville.
The police were present and escorted him out.
The gentleman that started the problem fell down the 3 flights of steps at the front of the venue.
The other LPD officer waiting at the bottom said the gentleman was clumsy, should be more careful and shouldn't have tried to run.

Foolishness is never tolerated at that show.
