Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0 9mm with 5-Inch brl not as popular as others in same class?

I have watched many videos of the MP9 2.0 with 5" barrel and it has gotten great reviews. But I don't see any youtubers making comparison videos to the likes of the P320 X5 Legion or Shadow 2.

By the way, my X5 Legion the trigger has a lot of creep but with the Grayguns trigger it has went from 3.5lb factory pull to 2.5lb. At 75ft I can get 6" groups.

I am wondering maybe the hinged trigger on the MP is the only limiting factor possibly or maybe also it does not have a mach barrel. Don't know but my MP Compact 2.0 in 9mm shoots fantastic

The two pistols you are comparing the M&P to are in a different class. Both are “deluxe” models.

The 5” M&P would be more in the arena of the G17, a full sized P320 or a 5”PPQ or XD. They are just stock duty weapons and not as sexy as some of the newer jazzed up offerings.

For what it is worth I am a fan of S&W, but I am not a fan of the hinged trigger. It feels flimsy to me and makes the pistol feel a little cheap. It would be cool if S&W came out with a Performance Center 5”. Then you would see it in those comparison videos.

I love flat triggers and shoot poorly with curved but the MP is the only execption. The MP hinged is crisp and there is no creep which is excellent. I think the only reason at 75ft why it would not fair so well against the X5 is because of the 5.4 lb trigger. If you put an Apex maybe different stor I am sure

The 4.25 full sized model would be up against the G17 while the 5" goes up against the G34.

Usually longer guns are in the competition realm.

That said, I have the 5" 2.0 FDE model and love the way it shoots. Also have the original full sized but all my M&Ps are Apex'ed.

I agree that 5 inch barreled M&Ps are not popular just based on resale prices. I bought mine for under $300 and it's almost new as far as I can tell. Sprinfield XD Tactical prices have also softened lately. The Glock 34's mystique appears to be slipping, too.

I attribute much of this to the rise of newer polymer pistols with better triggers. The Walther PPQ and Canik TP9SFL are two that spring to mind.

I have an M&P 9 Pro, which is a 5" barrel, but it is a 1.0. I paid around $550 or $575 a few years ago. I started USPSA and shot it stock for a while. Did terribly; 50% me, 50% the pistol.

I added a Performance Center CORE slide and added an optic (Vortex Venom). It improved the pistol but the trigger continued to help me pull shots low at speed due to the trigger pull weight, "mush", the hinge and the size of my hands. Finally added the Apex forward set sear and trigger kit and it's like a different pistol. It should be since without the cost of the optic I now have about $1000 in it and I have 7 mags. If I didn't I might go for the Sig. However, as someone said, the Sig still needs trigger work. I'm 71, so I'll never get truly competitive with young guys, but of the 25 people I compete with regularly, only 1 has an M&P, and he's spent the same on his as I have on mine. The competitors (amateur, local) that I shot with have mostly Sigs, Walthers or Caniks except for a few 2011 STIs and the like.

Wow the 2011 STI's are definitely top shelf but it's more money than I would want to spend. The Caniks is intriguing and affordable but the metal I hear is soft and rails do not last long.

I have the Sig P320 X5 Legion and even with an aftremarket Trigger it still has a lot of creep not good.

The infamous flimsy hinged gritty trigger is what kept me from buying any M&P 9 2.0. And turning it into a $700-750 gun to make the trigger right was not happening....but then the local Gander had a 25% markdown on firearms. Got a 5" FDE for $420 OTD. Didn't want the ambi-safety, but it was the last 5" in stock. It is very comfortable and the grip texture is perfect. It will soon have an Apex.

Still waiting on the 'brilliant' marketing clowns at S&W to finally put out a 10mm M&P. Preferably a compact with a trigger that doesn't need to be changed out. If such a pistol were to be produced it would replace the G29 as the EDC

$420 OTD is a smoking buy. I bought mine online for $428 shipped + $25 FFL transfer & I thought that was good.

To compare a polymer pistol to a steel frame pistols like Shadow 2 is like comparing an off-road car to a sports car.

For me the hinged trigger is not a deal breaker and I think that the stock trigger is not that bad, might need more training and dry fire to get used to it. But I do wish that when S&W decided to listen to the customer feedback on what they needed to improve on the model when making the 2.0 that they did a better job with the trigger.

I love the M&P series and I am going to be buying a 5” model and drop an Apex trigger in it and use it for competition as soon as I get the paperwork back from the police.

You did get a great deal.

In effect, Gander paid for the Apex trigger that will go in mine. And the safety will be eliminated at the same time.

That is exactly what I did. I got rid of my manual safety with S&W plugs (free back then) & got an FDE Apex trigger kit. Truth be told the trigger is really a champagne color. Softest shooting 9 I own.

The only thing the MP9 5" needs is an Apex Flat Trigger and it will be top notch. The stock trigger is fine for self defense distances but at 75ft it really does effect the accuracy and why Apex is needed. The only problem is OK I will spend about $440 out the door than it will cost another $179 plus shipping for Apex, if it shoots no better than my X5 Legion I will have felt I wasted my money.

I am thinking I should just wait until the Beretta 92X Performance comes out because that is very comparable to a Shadow 2 only the Beretta has a better trigger. The Beretta will be $1300 and would rather buy that then waste $700 on an MP

The 5" FDE M&P M2.0 9mm (With Apex trigger) has been my competition gun since January 2/2017. I know quite a few people who run them in IDPA, Steel Challenge and USPSA. It's fast, accurate and flat shooting.

They do offer a black 5" Pro Series M2.0. It's a great gun and doesn't need the Apex trigger, so you can run it in IDPA SSP. (I need to run my Apex trigger version in ESP)

Well, I'm not a fan of the hinged trigger. It feels flimsy and flexes quite a bit. Funny that my Shield has the hinged trigger but it's beefier and feels more solid.

I did put a 5" CORE slide kit on my 1.0 and it came with the "improved" striker block. I also swapped out the sear housing and trigger bar for the 2.0 that got rid of the loop.

I know I could simply drop an Apex into it, but I was trying to see what I could do with only S&W parts.

my trigger is fine, but

I like my 5" M&P .40 trigger, course I still can't hit the broad side of a barn, but I'm thinking its those stinkin 3 dot sights, does Novak make a set of sights for the M&P....

I'm loving my 5" M&P .40 with the safety, it runs like a freight train, I would LOVE to try a 10mm, because that .40 feels like a pop-gun....

I love the trigger, I think its an amazing piece of engineering, I'm thinking I need a set of Novak's and a "BarSto Barrel".....
