Some here may already know I am a huge Lionel Train enthusiast and have been feverishly working on finishing up my Layout that was started 25 years ago. Recently, I made a 30 minute video and this is my first attempt at filming and editing so it took me some time to put everything together. I do not have a video camera and this entire video was filmed with my iPhone 8 so PLEASE watch it on a regular computer screen in 1080p high definition for the best viewing experience.

This Layout had no professionals building, wiring, landscaping, or painting and all the work was done by myself and a great friend who decided to help me 3-5 days a week after he retired. This collection ranges from the late 1940's to about 2005 and the old 646 Hudson Steam Loco and some of the cars it is pulling are from my original set my Dad bought the day I was born.

I hope you guys enjoy it and as you can see one of the main focuses of the Layout are all the working accessories. The end of the video has the Layout operating at night in full darkness - illuminated only by the trains and accessories.

Among gun collecting, motorcycling, tools, etc. I'd consider the Lionel Layout to be one of my main hobbies! :D BTW the fellas in some of the scenes are not me - they are friends helping run the trains so I could film the video.

Again, please view in 1080p Hi Def. on a regular computer. Please make sure to start from the beginning, sometimes it doesn't by itself. - THANKS!

Wonderful!

I'm amazed just how many people who enjoy firearms also enjoy model trains. I'm very much into HO scale operations and I've been a train club member since the early 60s.

You did a great job on your railroad, especially your attention to detail and the overall cleanliness of your train room. It's museum quality. Thanks for sharing.

Just down right fantastic.

Such a great set up!! We used to set ours up every Christmas in the basement (up North) I still have the whole set which is boxed up. Some of the same accessories and dual transformer but maybe 1/10th of the amount you have. I would have to inventory them all. Mine is the same scale from middle 1950" through 60"s

The night time viewing is really great!! Will have to dig out some old family albums and see if there is any pics of it set up. I do remember it was set up on a ping pong table, with an overlay of some kind. Never have seen one of those Viewers!
Enjoy!:)

Great layout, Chief! Very well done!

If you ever get the chance, you need to go to Hamburg, Germany, to see Miniature World. It's in an old waterfront warehouse...three full stories of dioramas, including an entire scale airport. It's amazing.

Thanks again for sharing this with us. Your filming and editing were very professionally done, and watching it was a pleasure... :)

Chief, that is the most amazing and interesting video I have seen in a long time...maybe ever! The mechanical intricacies, the minute detail and tremendous imagination it took to create all that just absolutely blew me away.

I have a very basic train set up but it wasn't a patch compared to that tremendous layout. I would have killed every member of my family in their sleep for that set up.

I understand that it was a labor of love and all but it must have been quite an ordeal. But I can't imagine what else it could have contained. It must be the envy or real railway stations every where.

Thanks for giving us a peek. I'll be watching it again and again. Wanna make sure I don't over look anything.

We gotta have a way to give multiple like for the special posts like this'n!

Some spec's if you Fellas are interested:

* over a mile of wire used - combination of 14, 16, & 18 gauge
* 36 liters of foam "grass" used
* 100 lbs. of crushed stone for the Ballast and industrial yard
* about 125 or so trees on the layout
* close to 300 individual lightbulbs
* three dedicated 20 amp each circuits with master switches power the layout
* 8 individual ac transformers (5 under the table not seen) and 3 dc to power certain electronics
* about half the Loco's can be remotely controlled and about half are traditional.
* schematic below - all Lionel tin plate 072 & 031, switches and remote control track used

There are lots of operating rolling stock cars that I intend to use to make a second video sometime this Fall.

Thank you! I agree with you and believe that those of us who grew up during the same time period share common likes, dislikes, values, hobbies and interests. That is why so many of the young kids today have no interest in trains, slot cars, tools, guns etc. Their interests are in computers, video games and cell phones. :(

I grew up on the Grand Valley Division of the NYC. I guess I've been hooked on trains since 1952 when my Aunt and I road steam powered varnish out of our town. I admire the OP's patience for fine work.

Chief great layout and thanks for sharing your video. I had several O gauge trains as a boy that my grandfather bought me and set up a small layout in his house for me. I built a HO layout years ago but after a divorce I no longer had a place for it and sold everything, I miss playing with trains.
