I have a new 460 purchased last weekend and have watched YouTube videos that recommend using purple Loctite on the
PHP:
screws as they back out when fired. Is This a problem with this gun and is this a viable solution? As of today mine remains unfired but my finger itches

Screws could technically come loose on any revolver, your particular caliber may increase the chance. If it were me, I would just keep an eye on them, if one starts to back out and you notice the screw slot in a different direction, I would then remove the screw, clean it, and replace with a tiny dab of purple loctite. It should fix it. May take years of use to happen so just go - enjoy the gun but watch for signs of loosening.

I've had them come loose on a M610, M629 and 460V. I use blue threadlocker with great success. I clean off all the lube from the threads before applying and allow it to dry thoroughly.

I'm a big fan of all the different varieties of loctite on machinery. On guns Vibra-tite may be better. I'd never heard of it till my brother showed me a while back. It's a resin kind of locker that dries on the threads before assembly.

It locks just fine and won't run like a liquid (and mess up bluing etc).

In Smith and Wesson armor’s class that was on the air weights they said to use clear nail polish on the side plate screws.

Thank you for the info. I have not had this problem with any of my S&W revolvers but I will keep an eye on it.

I think this is your best choice.
I've been around the forum or a while and I don't recall a thread regarding this issue not even on a 500 S&W so go figure.
Obviously, it may ultimately depend on round count. Unless one is reloading, these calibers aren't what people usually take out and fire 100 rounds in a session I would imagine. :)

Heck, my M610 had three loose screws OOB!

I have been shooting Revolvers for almost 50 years and can't remember a screw backing out on a S&W - even on Magnums. Colt SAA's - yes, but not on Smith's. I do not own a 500 Magnum however I've shot 5 different versions in different barrel lengths - more than just a few times. I've never had a screw back out that I was aware of.

Before Locktiting, I'd prefer to tighten any screw properly and even try replacing it with a new one. If nothing else works, I suppose Blue Locktite could be used as a last resort.

Blue Loctite considered removable for screws 1/4" to 3/4"

Purple is removable for under 1/4" screws.

You can find the charts online to show what does what. Things have changed slightly since I went to loctite class.

I have to join the group that have been shooting for years (me 60+) and I can't remember a problem with any screws coming lose on any of my revolvers. I always shoot 100 rounds or more through each firearm I take to the range. I also clean each firearm following each range session and every 6 months perform a compete periodic maintenance where I remove side plates and etc. I suppose this probably keeps everything tight.
