Would be great to have the original magna stocks but those smooth targets are very nice. I'm pretty sure my nickel one shipped with magnas too but when I was looking for stocks the smooth targets were my choice. Enjoy yours.
Do NOT get rid of those grips! They are rosewood smooth presentation target grips. Very desirable, they are right under Coke grips as far as desirability. I would keep them on the gun and buy a set of N frame magna's to keep in the box. A 3 1/2 inch barrel 27 is way up there in desirability too. I would say you hit the jackpot with that situational
I think it is a fair buy. I have seen them sell for more. I think the seller is off on date of gun. More like 1975 zone. Those grips just set it off nicely, I think.
I do not shoot any N frame with Magnas on them. I have picked them up for each gun. All of my Smiths wear factory target stocks, or aftermarket target targets. I like the feel, and looks much better. Bob
Very nice stocks on a very nice 27-2. Since they are so desirable how about putting a set of magnas or black washer target stocks on it? Last December I obtained a 1975-ish 27-2 3.5" wearing presentation stocks. It's now wearing a set of period correct targets.
Not too long after your 27-2 was shipped, S&W upgraded the Model 27 by adding a target hammer, target trigger, checkered target stocks made of Goncalo alves, and a mahogany presentation case. For shooting and appearance, I would leave the rosewood target stocks on the 27-2 (they are period correct for the revolver).
