China flu update

My wife's sister was hospitalized with Covid a couple days ago. Thanks to God she went to the ER when she did as I fear she would now be 6 ft under. My thanks also to the greatest medical care in the world as she is recovering slowly but favorably. And I second whoever said get your own oxi-meter. I hope everyone in this thread stays safe.

At the onset of the virus in the U.S.,
it was mostly in large urban areas.

And those in the hinterland just figured
that's where it would stay if it was real
at all.

Now every corner of the U.S. is affected/
infected.

So true, especially in the upper Midwest. Iowa has had free and easily available testing since early summer and we have more cases now than ever before. 1 in 3 Iowans have been tested, 1 in 2 in my county. BUT 2 week averages have been over 20% positive since the first of the month. Governor finally ordered a
mask mandate last week. People are starting to listen but too little, too late.

China Flue

Calling it the China flu is inaccurate, offensive and political. There is a better name for it, which fixes blame for the severity of the pandemic squarely where it belongs.

With five of the last seven zoonotic flus originating in southern China, calling it anything other than China Flu is inaccurate. The only thing missing is the exact animal species (bat?) or specific location (Wuhan wet market or lab) where the jump from animal to human happened. The world is getting tired of SARS, Bird Flu and now China Flu (COVID-19) flaring up in dense Chinese hot spots. Nobody gets in a political huff of woke correctness when we call the 1918 flu Spanish Flu.

I can tell you from personal experience that medical staff in a local hospital call it China flu with a string of expletives before and after. You won't hear that inconvenient truth to contradict media narratives of what they think they know.

Got a dose of the Cflu in January. Took about a month to get better. Doctor thought I had an infection. Took two rounds of antibotics. Useless. What really helped immensely was biscuits and coffee in the morning and Blue Bell Vanilla Ice Cream and Double Stuff Vanilla Oreo's taken throughout the day. I gained a few pounds and got better. Now, I'm slowing loosing the pounds. The Cflu ... I'm watching for the vaccine. When it gets in my area, I will be in line waiting. Sincerely. bruce.

You can call it whatever you want; the virus won't be offended or impressed, and China flu isn't really inaccurate.

However, using it does indicate that, just like the people who first pushed that term, the user thinks that assigning blame is somehow helpful in fighting the virus. Or helpful in other ways. That hasn't worked out.

Wow, for a place that allows no politics I see at least one post that has a way of entering in to that. I also see a bunch of people that seem afraid of the virus. Most don't die and most don't ever go to the hospital. I don't want it and wear a mask because if I have it I don't want to pass it on. That said according to the experts the mask will not protect you from getting it. The percentage of people that die from it is very low and many included in the numbers were in nursing homes in very bad condition already. There have been 263k people that died from Covid19 they say. Did you know the numbers are around 100k every year for medical malpractice. I will not waist my time with cancer stats and many others that are worse including the flu. Cancer and I have been through it once already scares me more. We can not stop living and we can not shut things down where people lose jobs and homes. I am happy that I live in Florida.

I am one of the lucky ones. I started feeling tired on a Friday back in August. Felt tired that Sat.and Sun.I lost my sense of taste. Never had a fever only a little sinus drainage. Tues. I got tested and the following Sun. I got a call I tested positive. By then I felt completely well. Had to stay in covid jail until the following Friday.Never felt really bad during the whole experience. My girlfriend also had similar symptoms. Hers lasted a little longer with more sinus problems. As she works from home, she never stopped working. We're both in our 60's and very lucky.

China is the "black hole of secrecy". The people that live there are not the friendly smiling types that work in the Chinese take out down the street from you. They are 1.3 billion people that are enslaved to a dark and secret dictatorship. If there's anyone that can prove without a doubt that Covid didn't originate in China or that Covid is not a result of an attempt to weaponize a virus the CIA would like to talk to you. The fact is there could be 50,000+ dying from Covid daily in China and their bodies ground up for fertilizer and the free world would never know it.

Last Monday, the lady I'm seeing took her 62 year-old brother to the hospital because he was ill. Of course, he was diagnosed with Covid. They both wore masks while in her car, and although she is in quarantine, she's asymptomatic. However...

He has been steadily deteriorating. He was moved into the ICU yesterday, and called her today to tell her they're about to put him on a ventilator...he wanted to say goodbye in case this is the last time they're able to speak...

Update to the above post: My lady friend called me today in tears, as I was driving home from work. The hospital called to tell her that her brother's condition is worsening steadily. Apparently, his lungs are so damaged by the virus that despite the oxygen being forced into them by the ventilator, his organs are failing. The doctors think he's already suffered irreversible brain damage, and they've asked her to come to the hospital to sign a Do Not Resuscitate order.

I tried to tell her that at least he got to say goodbye to her before they put him on the ventilator, and that he's at least not in any pain...but there's no comfort for her in that. This is her big brother, they are very close, and he is about to check out at age 62... :(

How anybody at this point can still fail to treat this illness seriously is a mystery to me... :(

I've got the 'rona virus. Day 14 for me. My wife is a few days behind me.

I haven't been out much this year (prior to catching it), but I did attend a gun show a few days before my symptoms appeared. Even though we are in stage whatever, code red, the vendor chose to hold the event. I chose to attend. That's on me. Even though they limited the attendees to 350 at a time (which seems like a lot), and even though they widened the aisles and eliminated a few rows of tables, it was crowded in there. Nobody wore masks. Nobody stayed 6 feet apart. Nobody was liberal with the Lysol. Nobody cared. I may have come home with it. I'll never know for sure, but it's certainly suspicious.

Question... why don't any of us care enough to wear a mask to the show? Or to follow the rules of public safety? I learned my lesson, but just wondering why the casual attitude amongst the gun enthusiasts... many of whom are in the high risk category? I can ask myself the same questions, but wondering your point of view?

I see your point. I have not gone to the gun shows that have been here but have stopped by a couple of gun shops. Of course there were not as many people and I was able to keep some distance but no one wears mask in the shops I have been in. I didn't wear one either but thought about just what you are saying about us gun people.
