It looks like I've delayed setting up my 9mm reloading gear as long as possible. Loading with long held components (prices of which were low when purchased and now seem negligible) is now just too logical to be ignored!

Still waaaaaay too much money. Federal HST at $40 for 20 rounds? No way am I spending $2 per shot unless my life depended upon it. $30 for 50 rounds of aluminum cased ammo? Nope. $38 for 50 rounds of brass cased Blazer? Still too high, but I guess one might justify it by saving and reloading the brass.

Range rounds are one thing but self defense rounds are something else entirely.

Not sure about how others may feel, but if I did not value my life over the cost of proven effective SD rounds, I most likely would not carry a firearm in the first place.

What I am saying is that I have a supply of self-defense ammo. I stocked up a bit when it was reasonably priced. If for some reason I ran out of it, I would have to buy more at today's prices, but at today's prices, I'm not going to pop off 50-100 rounds just general practice. I reload, so as long as my supply of components holds up, I can shoot for a tiny fraction of the current ammo prices.

Yup. Ammo is getting really scarce -- and expensive. I use to think that the way was to "reload". Now, it is getting harder to find the components, especially primers... What is the use of finding bullets, cases, powders if there are no primers? Everything I have read is that "manufacturers" are maxing out their production lines to produce ammo. But we sure don't see it at the stores....

After recent events the haters are out full force and availability and price may be bad for all of us.

Back from a local flea market, guy had a table fully stocked with Sig 9mm and 45acp ammo as well as Blazer brass 9mm.

Blazer 9mm brass $40 per box of 50
Sig 9mm $75 per box of 50
Sig 45acp $90 per box of 50

I am SOOOO glad I've been buying and trading for ammo over the years that I have enough stocked up. I remember one time when Natchez had blazer 9mm for 5.99 a box, I bought so much to this day my UPS driver still flicks me off as he drives by the house.

I've been handloading for 41 years starting when I was 17. As such I always maintained plenty of components. That said, the 9mm, is the only round I shoot that I don't handload for. I have plenty of ammo for my 9's but it's just sitting as I enjoy shooting revolvers far more than autoloaders (no brass chasing for one). Of late I have been shooting rimfires, 45 Colt, 38 Special and 32 H&R.

Yeah, and less than 2 years ago the "conventional wisdom" was "why would ANYONE tie up money in components and then waste their time reloading something as common and cheap as 9mm?"
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
He who laughs last laughs best ;)
I can still feed my little herd of 9mm bottom feeders for less than 10 cents a round - $5 a box - using components I bought back when people were telling me I was stupid for even wasting my time reloading 9mm.
