Have been reading posts about grips. Think these are uncheckered rosewood. Are they original to the gun? Think gun is 1st year or so because is a 4 screw. Maybe circa 1961.
What are the brass shells for?
They are actually steel (stainless I believe) and they are inserts shaped like the R3mington 22 Jet rounds on the outside but bored for a 22LR round on the inside.
They allow you to shoot cheap 22LR ammo in the gun - instead of having to shoot the VERY expensive Remington 22 Jet ammo.
When I say "very expensive" I mean about $1.50-$2.00 a round on GunBroker.
I don't quite understand how the inserts work
wouldn't the firing pin still hit the center of the rimfire 22LR
or do rimfire not require a strike on the rim to go off?
The hammer has a rotating hammer nose with 2 positions.
In one position it hits center for firing Remington 22 Jet.
In the other position it hits off center for firing rimfire 22LR.
Really quite an elegant design.
